CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - "Marines are always looking for a challenge," said Captain Shawn Rickrode.

And apparently so am I.

Saturday almost 450 people will test their endurance in the 13th annual Bulldog Challenge.

Friday I just tried to survive.

"The course is a little over six miles and there are 15 different events along the route," said Captain Rickrode.

While the course didn't kill me, that didn't stop them for trying.

The six mile monster is a test of true endurance that gets a little messy with a run through pluff mud.

But the crazy course is also for a good cause.

"We raise money for scholarships that are named for fallen Marines that were graduates from the Citadel," said Captain Rickrode.

This year it will be in memory First Lieutenant Dan Malcolm. He was killed in Fallujah in 2004.

To many future "jarheads" raising money this way just comes naturally.

"Marines, we train like this all the time so it's kind of second nature to us," said Captain Rickrode.

As I stumbled through the entire route it became clear, I'm not a Marine

Teams of four from all over the country will participate Saturday.

Odds are they will all do much better than me.
