Warrant Officers???

I've searched this website and looked it up on Google and I got some ok definitions. But I'm still confused on what the duties and how the rank works for Warrant Officers. What's the difference between a Warrant Officer and an Officer? Would a Second Lieutenant be "senior" to a Warrant Officer 1?

This was the best description that I got, but it still left many questions unanswered.

When you're speaking out loud in a formal setting, you don't say the number. Example: "The oldest Marine present is Chief Warrant Officer Jones."

And this part is actually a question on my part. I thought LDO's could get promoted past Captain. My last Company XO was selected for Major not so long ago. Do they have a limit to what rank they can achieve?

That is correct. You have to be a Warrant Officer for atleast 6 years I believe to submit for LDO. After being selected, you'll receive the rank of Captain and you can max out at Colonel.

Regarding the initial question, you have to be an NCO (I think you should have to be a Sgt) with 8 years time in service to submit for warrant officer. You complete a pretty sizable package with your SRB, promotion photo, all negative documentation on yourself, pictures of tattoo's and some other stuff. Your package goes before the Warrant Officer selection board and they'll select the top candidates for promotion. If you're selected, you'll go to the Warrant Officer Basic Course (WOBC) at Quantico for 3 months where you'll be trained as if you were a 2nd Lt. After graduation, you'll go back to a unit and serve as a subject matter expert both instructing those below you and advising those officers senior to you.

Warrant Officer is a great rank to have and they receive a lot of respect from both the enlisted and officer communities because everyone knows that 1) They're prior enlisted and they were sh!t hot and 2) They know what the fvck is going on.

Promotion through the Warrant Officer ranks is fairly easy up to WO3 as well. After three years, you'll get WO2 and after 4 (I believe) you'll see WO3. Then it becomes pretty competitive after that that.

This MarAdmin lists 29, but there is another document stating total of 28 out of a certain number of billets they needed to fill which I believe is close to 150.
