The local chapter of Parrot Heads in Paradise (PHiP) The Pau Hana Parrotheads will be holding their second edition of "5 O'Clock on the Beach" this year before the Jimmy Buffett show on February 28th.

In 2007, the party was a big success with over 300 Phlockers in attendance at the Waikiki Elks Lodge, a significant amount of money was raised for Hawaii FIDO, a nonprofit charity organization.

Parrot Heads in Paradise, Inc. is a Not-For-Profit Corporation, whose purpose is to assist in community and environmental concerns and provide a variety of social activities for people who are interested in the music of Jimmy Buffett and the tropical lifestyle he personifies. The organization engages in activities that are charitable, educational and that promote the general welfare of the community. Currently, the organization stands at 227 chapters in the United States, Canada and Australia … 3 different countries, 47 states, 3 Canadian provinces and one U.S. Territory. Total membership remains steady with more than 25,000 dedicated, fun-loving Parrot Heads amongst the ranks.

In 2007, Parrot Head Clubs collectively raised for and/or donated to charitable organizations approximately $ 2.9 million. Perhaps more importantly, Parrot Heads carried on the tradition of volunteerism as 2007 saw chapters worldwide donate more than 181,000 man-hours to philanthropic and environmental activities. This past year, Parrot Heads collectively spent the equivalent of 7500+ 24 hour days on charitable, social and environmental activities and sent hundreds & hundreds of "care packages" to our soldiers in Iraq … and they had a blast while doing it.

Locally the Pau Hana Parrotheads have coordinated various beach and reef clean ups and donations to the Hawaii Food Bank. Other club activities include frequent social gatherings at local marinas and beaches that often include live music and barbeques, as well as sailing and fishing trips and weekend raft-ups.

This years Pre concert Charity event will benefit “The Wounded Warriors Dog Program” and “Aloha Independent Living Hawaii”(AILH). The Wounded Warriors’ offers barracks and services to injured Marines and Soldiers throughout the recovery, rehabilitation and transition process. Often psychological wounds can be just as devastating to service members and families as physical wounds.

The program, which is administrated by the non-profit20organization Hawii Fi-Do, is dedicated to being part of the healing process of those suffering from battle related injuries and PTSD by engaging these service members in the training of service dogs. The goal is to provide the Wounded Warrior unit it’s own service dog that will be part of the residents lives for years to come."

Aloha Independent Living Hawaii” is a new non-profit Independent Living center. The original Hawaii Center has been dysfunctional in providing service to persons with disabilities as mandated under Federal law. The new Center will offer the services to the underserved population on Oahu. AILH is applying for State and Federal funding but the process is lengthily so they are operating on donations only. The event will feature entertainment by TropRock artist Scotty Bryan. A recently retired Navy Chief who has traveled the country during his past 23years of service, and performed at numerous events throughout the United States. Scotty has an impressive repertoire of over 100 Jimmy Buffett songs, TropRock, classic rock, country songs as well as local Parrot Head favorites from his debut CD "Beach on the Brain". Now that he is recently retired he will be pursuing his full time entertainment career out of Central Florida and will be featured at this years "Parrothead Cruise 2009" out of Tampa Bay, FL in March.
