I'm signed up for DEP in the reserves, and I was just wondering if I'm going to go to train at the same place as I'm going to do infantry training (Camp Pendleton) and if the plane trip to monthly training is paid for.

Hey I see that you're from Lansing. I'm in Charlie Co. 1/24 right in Lansing so if you're joining our unit I can tell you what will happen. Monthly training is all in Michigan area. We do field training at Fort Custer which is near Battle Creek, Camp Grayling which is in northern Michigan, and Camp Atterbury which is right about in the middle of Indiana. We also have a few home drills throughout the year where our weekend is spent at our drill center in Lansing. This summer our 2 week Annual Training exercise is in Bridgeport, California. Last summer, it was in Peru.

I've never looked into it myself, but i'm reading a book right now on platoon 3086 of parris island during bootcamp, and one Marine after graduation is asked to switch active. So I suppose you'll still go through bootcamp at either San Deigo or Parris Island, then do your infantry training.

Reservists and Active go to the exact same boot camp and the exact same MOS training. It's after schooling that they differ. Actives go to their fleet unit after graduation from MOS school and Reservists go to their Reserve unit.

Yes so when everyone in your mos school is complaining that they didn't sign up for leave after mos school you can say well im glad that I get to go home... But I will tell you, reserves has its downsides... It gets in the way of your everyday job, and it also affects your thought process. Because you have to always remember that once you earn the title Marine.. Thats what you are a Marine... I AM TELLING YOU THIS. Once you earn the title Marine you are not to go home and become lazy or complacent with anything. You are still a Marine 24/7. And you better hold yourself to that standard.

Or instead of living with their moms, they live on their own while putting themselves through college to establish a career.

In the words of one of my Sergeants, "Honor, Courage, Half Commitment." :p

I honestly think it takes as much or more commitment. We handle school, civilian job, and the Marine Corps duty. While handling families and personal life. Not to mention we deploy just as much. :)
So active duty Marines don't have families, personal lives, or go to school?
I could go on about this, but that would be ruining the thread...

I could agree that you have just as much commitment, but not more.

More comittment?,,,,,,,,,,, OK.
You'll go to bootcamp, 10days leave, and 52days of ITB in Camp Pendleton, then after that you report to your reserve station. You will be on active duty pay the entire time your on student status and after that you start reserve pay. The plane ride to Camp Pendleton is paid by your forcefully at bootcamp and then you get reimbursed once you check in to the reserve station, so save the reciepts.

Active duty pay while on student status? So as long as I remain a student I'll be paid active?
I was never told anything about this by my recruiter or the SNCOIC at the station.

Yes, you will get paid active duty pay while you are in boot camp and while you are in ITB.

Ok yea, I knew that. The student status phrase was what messed me up.
And you will get BAH when deployed, freaking losers....
