Brett Favre has retired before, but this time, it seems he might just stick to it.

This time, Brett Favre (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Brett+Favre) appears to be dead serious about staying retired.
The future Hall of Fame quarterback has filed his official retirement papers with the league, a person familiar with the situation told the Daily News Wednesday. Favre didn't take that step last March when he retired from the Packers (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Green+Bay+Packers), fueling immediate speculation that he was having second thoughts.

As it turned out, those second thoughts became reality in June, when he announced his intentions to return to football. In August, he was traded to the Jets (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/New+York+Jets) by the Packers.

For practical purposes, the primary reason for filing retirement papers is to receive a one-time severance pay. Some retired players wait years before finalizing the paperwork. Symbolically, this means Favre really thinks he's done for good.

From the Jets' perspective, it means his $13 million salary comes off the books immediately - today. It's now believed the Jets are about $10 million below the salary cap, which goes into effect Feb. 27.

Do you think that he will drop out of football altogether and become sort of a football recluse or will he try to capitalize on his football marketability while he can? Do you think that he might go into coaching?

Berman's job. Berman has got to be the most annoying sports personality since Howard Cossell. (sp)

I disagree, the most annoying sports personality has to be Brent Mussberger.(SP)

So...Farve said "he" would not ask for his release from the Jet's... so.... now everyone thinks he is done playing ...NOT....his agent good ole' Bus (boy) Cook does all of Farve's bidding for him. Trust me Farve wants to play in Purple....he has a great disliking for the present management in GB.....he WANTS to beat them just 1 time ...in GB would be the icing for his retirement cake.i don't think we have really seen the last of good ole' # 4

I'm a PACKER FAN !!!

I'm a Packer fan, too, and I was VERY disappointed with Brett when he selfishly tried to jerk the team (and his teammates) around with that soap opera drama last year. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-taunt001.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org) When I heard that he retired, I immediately wondered who he's gonna play for next year! If it turns out that it's the Viqueens and plays against the Pack in purple, I hope all the Packer faithful give him the royal moon as he leaves! http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-taunt007.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org)

Nope....I'm a PACKER FAN !!!Chiefs, Packers, Bears in that order. Was disappointed that Bret didn't work it out in Green Bay. Trying the same thing Montana did, and instead of going out as the best, all people remember is Momtana's last misserable season with KC. Favre is headed in the same direction.

I was a 98 pound weakling high school freshman. There was a group of guys in school who wore bi-queen jackets, that made school hell for 2 years. Can't stand purple, or the bi-queens since. SF

I agree with retiring with dignity and that would be the case if he would have retired last year...I'm afraid he has tarnished his rep and image after all that drama last year...they will retire #4 in GB,but it won't happen while Teddy boy is the GM

p.s. Ted Thompson has got to go.....

Packers AND bears?!? http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-confused004.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org) How's THAT work?? I always thought that when you take the Packer oath, you swear to hate the stinkin', farkin' bears for life! When the bears and vikes play, I root for 'em BOTH to lose! But, I have been accused of being a little rabid when it comes to that subject. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-excited001.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org)

Cool! Packer Hall o' Fame, that is bad-ASS!! I remember the old Black and Blue Division (GB, Chicago, Detroit, Minn.) when they ALL played outside. Can you imagine playing 8 games a season outside, in the Northern Midwest, in Fall-Winter? Ouch.

Well, if the Packers are playing Da Bears, I root for the Pack, but if the Bears or the Pack are playin KC I root for the Chiefs. And I always root against the bi-queens, and the Donkeys from Denver.
