Four pilots at the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma will be among the first instructors to train others how to fly new futuristic fighter jets.

The F-35B Joint Strike Fighter jets will eventually replace all the aging AV-8B Harriers and F/A-18 Hornets in the Marine Corps.

The Yuma station is among the first bases in the nation to get the new jets.

The Marine Corps fielded 44 applications from pilots who wanted to become instructors on how to fly the jets.

Of the six pilots choses, four were from Yuma.

The other two came from the headquarters in Washington, D.C., and the other from an air station near San Diego.

The training squadron will be located at Eglin Air Force Base near Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
