Air show will feature U.S. Marines' Harrier

PEORIA —
The Prairie Air Show's 25th anniversary in July will feature a demonstration of the U.S. Marines' AV-8B Harrier, in addition to the previously announced appearance of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.
The 25th anniversary show is set for July 10, 11 and 12 at the Gen. Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport. Tickets are $12 in advance for adults, $7 for children and $42 for flight deck. Tickets will be available online starting April 1.
The Harrier can take off vertically, hover, spin and fly at speeds of more than 550 miles per hour.
According to a press release from Prairie Air Show organizers, the Marines request more than 350 requests each year for a Harrier demonstration, but can only approve 10 to 12 a year.
Organizers also have booked the "Huey Experience," a display of the UH-1 helicopters from the Vietnam War era.
