Painkillers stolen from Iraq vet in hospital

DENVER — Police say a woman stole painkillers and a device that was pumping them into an Iraq war veteran as he lay unconscious in a Denver hospital.
Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center said Thursday the patient wasn’t injured.
The patient’s name wasn’t released, and it wasn’t immediately clear why he was being treated or whether his hospitalization was related to his Iraq service.
Police spokesman Sonny Jackson says the man is on active duty.
Jackson says the woman appeared to know what she was doing when she dismantled the device. He says the crime amounts to an “assault on the soldier who needed those drugs.”
Hospital officials say surveillance video indicates the woman was in and out of the patient area in less than three minutes. Officials say the woman’s image was captured on the video, and they hope that will lead to her arrest.
