New online course offers insight into MAGTF

CAMP HANSEN, Okinawa (January 30, 2009) -- The College of Continuing Education added the Marine Air Ground Task Force Fires Interactive Multimedia Instructions course to Marine Net Jan. 6.

According to the course description, it is primarily for field grade officers and senior enlisted in support of the Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Marine Expeditionary Force, and higher levels. However, any service member can take the course and will gain 15 promotion points upon completion.

Students will learn the basics of planning, coordinating, executing and assessing target operations.

The 28-hour course has 22 lessons split up into three modules, including fires organization, planning and execution/combat assessment.

Each lesson is designed to be completed in one sitting.

"Students that have or haven't been to the instructor-led course or the Staff Non Commissioned Officers Academy can greatly benefit from the new course," said Maj. Erich Knox, project officer in the courseware development section for the COCE. The course will also improve knowledge of MAGTF operations and joint operations.

"The average student will have a much better understanding of the joint targeting and fires process," said Knox. "This is critical, especially for those working in joint operation centers or schools."

Service members who cannot take the in-house course will now be able to take the online version to gain a broad understanding of the MAGTF course content.

The new online course will be a pre-requisite to the instructor-led course taught by the Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific instructors.
