Marines appreciate Army Community Service staff

With only 27 permanent party and about 55 Marines, the Marine Corps Detachment at Fort Gordon is one of the smallest groups of post.

It might be easy for the small group to be overlooked on an Army post, but its commander, Capt. Scott Gurley, said his Marines receive stellar treatment especially from the Army Community Service staff.

"They always provide quality service," he said.

Detachment officials presented Vanessa Stanley, ACS chief, and her staff with framed certificates of appreciation on Jan. 23.

Gurley said many of his Marines are young and have needed the services offered at ACS.

Stanley said her organization as well as the Family and Fleet support staff, have provided financial and Family support services to the young Marines and their Families who are stationed at Fort Gordon.

While the programs are standard, in a few cases, there were some extenuating circumstances with the Marines which demanded extra care and sensitivity, she said.

"We are here to provide for all of our military service members and their Families,' said Stanley. "We genuinely appreciate and were genuinely surprised by the commander and master gunnery sergeant."
