I got to fire a M1 again. My buddy (Army) bought a M1 in fine condition and we headed to the range. After 20 rounds the first thing I found out is I can't see very well any more. Eye glasses and iron sights don't mix. Once we got the rifle sighted-in I could hold about a 14 inch spread at 100 yards. Nothing wrong with the rifle or the ammo. Also, it took two weeks for my shoulder to heal. This getting old is a pain in the butt.
A month later we fired a WWII Japanese type 99 rifle that was in excellent condition. I put 10 rounds of 7.7 mm (7.7 X 58) into a 20 inch bulls eye at 100 yards. Got most of them into the 20 inch bull ... man, that Jap rifle kicks worst than the M1 and it does not have a windage adjustment on the sights. Took another month for my shoulder to heal.
I gotta get a good shooting jacket
