Marine killed in Iraq in '04 will be honored
Brownsburg » A former Brownsburg resident who died four years ago while fighting in Iraq will be honored by the Marines on Saturday.
Marine Sgt. Morgan Strader will be recognized in the same Brownsburg church that hosted his memorial service in 2004 as his father, Gary Strader, accepts the Navy and Marine Commendation Medal on his son's behalf.
The medal is given to service members who, while serving with the Navy or Marines, distinguish themselves through heroism, outstanding achievement or meritorious service. Morgan Strader was shot and killed Nov. 12, 2004, by enemy forces in Fallujah.
The ceremony, which is open to the public, will be at 6:15 p.m. at Connection Pointe Christian Church, 1800 N. Green St., Brownsburg.
"I just hope this ceremony provides a moment to focus and appreciate not only Morgan, but all of those who have and are currently serving," Gary Strader said.
