Some Camp Lejeune Marines may have heard of the motto “don’t burn bridges,” but on Wednesday, Jan. 28, these Marines might be singing a different tune, one that is more along the lines of “build your own.”

Bridge Company, 2nd Marine Logistics Group and the 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division will be practicing how to use the Improved Ribbon Bridge.

The exercise beings at 7:00 a.m. at Engineer Point, Camp Lejeune. Marines will be using the Improved Ribbon Bridge to ferry eight M1A1 Main Battle Tanks and one Retrieve Vehicle across a body of water.

When deployed, the ribbon bridge acts like a floating bridge, allowing vehicles to go over water, instead of through it.

If all goes well, officials hope the Marines will gain valuable confidence and experience in operating the bridge.
