We've done our best, and you've worked at things a bit, but it's like the First Sergeant says, you can read how to ride a bike, but it ain't the same as ridin' one!
Yer in for the experience of a lifetime!

The correct response is:
Sir, Thank You Sergeant Bonesteel, Aye Aye SIR!

Er, bones, is now the time to tell 03 about the instructor at SOI?
Or should it be a surprise?
wrbones

Ah...We'll let yer son be a surprise to him, shall we?
After all...we want these kids to think I'm the hard ass of the Marine Corps...at least til they learn better for themselves!
Yep. They'll be wishin' for the good ol' days when ol' Bones let them get away with murder!!!
(...and if yer son finds out that any of those FNG's are from leatherneck.com...well...ask 'im if he'll boot one or two of them in the butt for me if they screw up.)

I leave the same day, off for San Diego...well, technically my orders say report in on the 24th...but my recruiter is sending me up Sunday afternoon to report in on the 23rd instead. I think they just don't feel like making an extra trip on Monday just for me.
Anyway, best of luck to you (and me!) and should be seeing you on the forum around, what, September 19-20 or so?
Anyhow, enough typing this reply, time to get back to reading these threads and getting all the info I can.

Oh! I can remember when I was in your shoes, 42 yrs ago. You
will do aright. Just follow orders and keep you mouth shut, and
things will go alright. I know you'll let us know how you made
out. When a DI's nose to nose with you, DON'T make eye con-
tact. Best of luck.

What are you waiting for a written invitation. Get off my bus meat head and get on them yellow footprints move it move it!!!!!
I used nicer words than what my DI used on us when we arrived at MCRD San Deigo in Dec of 71. Just keep your mouth closed and the first word out of your mouth had better be SIR AND THE LAST WORD OUT WILL BE SIR ALSO. But for now keep PTing and getting your mentally prepared for one of the most rigorist test that you will ever do.
Good Luck
