Marine death in Afghanistan under investigation

Officials are investigating the death of a Camp Lejeune-based Marine in Afghanistan.
Lance Cpl. Daniel R. Bennett, 23, of Clifton, Va., died Sunday in Helmand province, Afghanistan, after a "non-hostile incident," according to a Department of Defense news release.
Bennett, an infantryman, was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division. He had deployed to Iraq from July 31, 2007 to Jan. 25, 2008 and deployed to Afghanistan in November.
Bennett joined the Marine Corps on June 5, 2006. His awards include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
