Lejeune Marines training in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. - The Marines are taking over the streets of Richmond, Va.
Members of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit will be conducting a Realistic Urban Training Exercise in the area starting today and continuing through Jan. 24.
The bulk of the Camp Lejeune-based MEU's 2,200 personnel began arriving at Fort Pickett this week. Most of them will train aboard Fort Pickett, while contingents of 80-100 Marines will conduct three coordinated exercises at locations off base. The Marines will be coordinating with the FBI and local officials during the off-base training.
Virginia residents may begin to see and hear aircraft from the 22nd MEU flying overhead today while pilots and crews conduct area familiarization flights. On Saturday, pilots and crews will practice landing in pre-planned landing zones throughout the area.
