...BTW, my platoon guide from bootcamp; Plt 3019, 'M' Company, 3rd RtBn, MCRDSD, Feb-May 1984, tracked me down today via another site! Felt he'd neglected his duty by losing touch with the platoon! Semper Fi indeed!

Told him not to sweat it, as I tried to remain forgettable through bootcamp so as to avoid the Drill Instructors wrath.

United States Marines are walking, talking, hell, death and destruction. The most aggresive, ruthless, belligerant fighting force the world has ever known. Beer cooled, MRE fueled, foot propelled, hard charging, low crawling, straight shooting, romping, stomping, ass kicking, little green amphibious monsters!

Blood makes the grass grow, Marines make the blood flow!

The mind is willing, but the body is not what it was 34 years in the past.

Freedom
Those who take freedom for granted,
Would be dependent,
On those brave souls,
Who are willing to pay the price for it.

And the price of freedom,
Will be paid at times unexpected,
By heroes,
Who didn't know they were.

I had posted this before, but I think this is a good place to bump it.
Help!
I could use some help on this one.

Several month's ago, after watching the umpteenth rerun of the Over the Hill Gang, I had an idea for an updated version.

For those who haven't seen the Over the Hill Gang, it was a comedy about several long-retired marshalls, sheriffs, and cowboy heroes who came out of retirement for one last ride into the sunset. The actors were relics remaining from a long list of former cowboy sidekicks and character actors we easily recognized from long forgotten western scenes we grew up with.

Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear, when out of the west came the echoes of "Hi Yo Sadaam, Awaaaaaaaaaay!

Instead of a calvery bugler trilling to the beat of The William Tell Overture as a lead-in, we have the sound of chopper blades wump wumping the beat of Proud Mary.

I don't have much of a storyline put together yet, just bits and pieces of scenes to be developed.

A standing vet, tossing a hand granade. He joints lock up and he is frozen like a statue until two buddies can get to him and tip him over.

Every squad has one man tasked with carrying the squad's daily medication requirements, and is responsible for their timely ingestion. He wakes them up, if it's sleeping pill time.

Attached to each platoon is a corpman, two physical therapists and a shrink. Also a dietician responsible for the daily preparation of the individual food packages for those on restricted diets.

A scene where two men are carrying a buddy, while two others are trying to get his all-terrain mechanized wheel chair out of a ditch.

The CO back at HQ is in an iron lung, while two of his staff are attached to portable respirators.

A scene where the med-evac chopper pilot, wearing dark sunglasses, is walking out to his aircraft tapping a white cane.

A scene where the explanation for disregarding a radio msg is that the battery went out on the operator's hearing aid.

A rapelling insertion from a hovering helo, and some practical joker substituted a bungee cord.

The morale officer was a Korean War vet, and the USO show he booked for the troops had the survivors from the original cast of a show he saw in Inchon.

I can see a machine gunner or a helo mech with palsey, and a character with alzheimer's.

You get the idea. I think if we put our talents together, we could really make this thing work.

Semper Fi

These are two posts that responded to my call for help.

The scenario you write about is Believeable.

My New knees keep locking up and I am on a restricted Diet

and need my Meds on a timely Basis , but let there be no DOUBT

I can still shoot straight and my Mind is as good now as it ever

was.

Arm them all with M-14’s Thompson’s & M1911’s, don’t forget the aluminum Canteens and throw in a couple of Kids and a VA Rep to carry the Beer & extra ammo.

Your best map-reader carries a shotgun because his coke bottle lenses wont allow him to see very well much beyond his fingertips.

Your Point man uses a metal detector to look for trip wires and your M-60 team consists of 5 crewman, (1) Gunner, (1) A gunner (1) ammo man and (2) others who take turns helping the Gunner carry the Gun. Your 3.5 team consists of 7 crewman (1) Gunner, (1) A gunner and (5) ammo carriers (1) round each.

The CO rides in a bulletproof 1980 Mercedes towing a reinforced 1969 Airstream trailer. The Company driver has the best driving record with only (6) Speeding ticks & (2) DUI’s in the past 10 years.

The 50’s & 106’s are mounted on the back of Camo Ford F150 4x4’s and instead of 6x’s, the troops are transported in 1970 Vintage, reinforced, Camo School Buses. Each outfitted with armor plating, bulletproof glass, Draft Beer coolers and full Heads with showers.

Now all ya need is a unit designation and the plot – “The First Mission”

The Secretary of State, the Honorable Colin Powell, during a recent trip to the UN in New York was approached by an Iraqi news reporter, who asked: "Is it true that only 13 percent of young Americans can even find Iraq on the map?"

The Secretary turned to the reporter with a smile and said: "Yes, that's true. But the sad news for Iraq is that the 13 percent are all United States Marines!" HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I thought this fit here

I Got Your Back

I am a small and precious child, my dad's been sent to fight...
The only place I'll see his face, is in my dreams at night.
He will be gone too many days for my young mind to keep track.
I may be sad, but I am proud.
My daddy's got your back.

I am a caring mother. My son has gone to war...
My mind is filled with worries that I have never known before.
Everyday I try to keep my thoughts from turning black.
I may be scared, but I am proud.
My son has got your back.

I am a strong and loving wife, with a husband soon to go.
There are times I'm terrified in a way most never know.
I bite my lip, and force a smile as I watch my husband pack...
My heart may break, but I am proud.
My husband's got your back...

I am a United States Marine... Serving Proudly, standing tall.
I fight for freedom, yours and mine by answering this call.
I do my job while knowing, the thanks it sometimes lacks.
Say a prayer that I'll come home.
It's me who's got your back.

I am in great shape, (no gut, and still working out) and willing to go, but need no BS. FROM GEN. MIKE SULLIVAN...................................

At about 2:15 this morning, not being able to sleep, I tuned
in to MSNBC where they were covering a real time fire fight
at the bridgehead in Al Kut by bob Arnot the embedded reporter.
He was with a small unit of the 4th Marines. Unbelievable!!!

In the aftermath of the battle somebody repeated a comment
made by General Kelly I might not have this absolutely verbatim,
when asked if he or his Marines were concerned about the
upcoming battle for Baghdad he made this remark:
"We're Marines, we took Iwo Jima, Baghdad ain't sh!t"
Hope this quote gets more coverage and gets the place in
history it deserves!

PS - Sounds like something "Chesty" Puller might have said, eh?

AND WALKED AWAY.............................................. ....

This morning on Fox news they showed a reporter embedded with the Army
Division close to Baghdad. He said that the troops were happy that they were
nearing Baghdad and possibly the end of fighting. He said they were singing
the Simon and Gafrunkle song "Homeward Bound" indicating they thought they
would soon be home.

Fox news then switched to Rick Leventhal their reporter embedded with the
1st MArine Division also just outside Baghdad. Rick was laughing saying I
don't think you'll find Marines singing any Simon, and Garfunkle songs. He
turned to a young Marine and asked what song he thought they'd sing to
represent what they thought. Without pause the Marine said" Kill 'em all" by
Metallica, and walked away.

Interesting contrast.

WHERE DO THEY GET.............................................

Martin Savidge of CNN embedded with the 1st Marine Battalion
was talking with 4 young Marines near his foxhole this morning
live on CNN. He had been telling the story of how well the
Marines had been looking out for and taking care of him since
the war started. He went on to tell about the many hardships
the Marines had endured since the war began and how they
all look after one another.

He turned to the four and said he had cleared it with their
commanders, and they could use his video phone to call home.
The 19 year old Marine next to him asked Martin if he would
allow his platoon sergeant to use his call to call his pregnant
wife back home whom he had not been able to talk to in three
months. A stunned Savidge, who was visibly moved by the request,
shook his head, and the young Marine ran off to get the sergeant.

Savidge recovered after a few seconds and turned back to the
three young Marines still sitting with him and asked which one
of them would like to call home first, the Marine closest to
him responded without a moment's hesitation -- "Sir, if it is
all the same to you, we would like to call the parents of a
buddy of ours, Lance Cpl Brian Buesing of Cedar Key, Florida,
who was killed on 3-23-03 near Nasiriya to see how they are doing".

At that Martin Savidge totally broke down and was unable to speak.
All he could get out before signing off was --
"where do they get young men like this?"

As I watched the prisoners of war being liberated near Sammara Iraq, I couldn't help but notice those fine young Marines doing the rescue operation. The prisoners were giving high praises to their recuers, The Marines, as were the media personnel. It goes to show that the irreplaceable organization that all of you and I still are a part of, is still operating at the highest level of professionalism.

This is the time to which we as Marines stand up, count off, and lock and load.

The training has been done, the mission is yet to come.

We will fight for OUR country and die for our flag. The youth of tomorrow know not what they lack.

Yesterday is forever gone the future to be told.

Stand back for here we come, the Crimson and Gold.

We know not what fear is, we live to be bold.

The Corps made us what we are, fighters til the end.

Lock up your wives and daughters cause the Marines are coming in.

We'll make them free and make them safe, then have them for our own.

But when were done we'll leave with grace and a smile upon our chin.

You know we always do our best, the best is all we know.

That is why we bare the title of United States Marine.

From The Halls of Montazuma now to Libiria.

A Marine is there to protect the world and Keep this great land, The United States of America, Safe.

March on Marines, for You are the protectors, the defenders, the peace keepers. But if you EVER need back-up. Call on Me, call on your brothers. We who have earned the title will ALWAYS be there to serve.

Pull the IV from my veins and the O2 from my nose. I am a Marine and I will fight. Now, Then, Forever.

There are over 8410 members here at leatherneck, over 50% have to be Marines, yet still waiting for You-all to stand -up and be counted. Show the world how PROUD you are to wear THE EAGLE, GLOBE AND ANCHOR. ALSO HOW PROUD YOU ARE TO TELL THE WORLD "I'M A UNITED STATES MARINE."

We all are united as one, we all are Marines, we all are part of that Brother/SisterHood. Yet there are those who forget the true meaning of being a Marine, they abuse the system and only care about themselves forgetting about their Brothers and Sisters. They were never True Marines, So let all of us true Marines stand up and be counted and always be there for each other.

I WANTED TO SHOW MY RESPECT. I MAY HAVE BEEN IN THE NAVY, I SERVED 12 YEARS, THE BEST 10 YEARS OF MY 12 WAS WITH THE CORPS. I NEVER WORE THE DEVIL DOG UNIFORM. I DON'T CARE WHAT OTHER SERVICES SAY, EVEN MY NAVY COUNTERPARTS, ANYONE WHO WORE AND WEARS THE MARINE UNIFORM SHOULD BE PROUD. AS MY DEVIL DOG BROTHERS I SERVED WITH IN 2/7, 3/7, 1ST RECON, ECT. WE HAVED SHARED THE SAME BLOOD, SWEAT, PAIN, ENEMY KILLS, THOUSANDS OF MILES IN OUR BLACK CADDY'S, AND LOST DEVIL DOG BROTHERS. I HAVE THE MOST RESPECT FOR ANY DEVIL DOG WHO WORE THE UNIFORM. YOU DEVIL DOGS ARE THE BEST I HAVE EVER SERVED WITH. ALL DEVIL DOGS SHOULD SHOW YOUR COLORS, YOU ALL EARNED IT. THE CORPS IS THE BEST, THERE IS NO ONE HIGHER THAN THE CORPS. SEMPER FI!!!! SgtSauce and Robbie, we do all have a lot of knowledge to pass on to these new Devil Pups. The only problem that I see is that some of these Devil Pups think they know more than us. But for the most part, they do listen to what we have to say, and do learn from us. Semper Fi! ! ! ! To all Marines! ! ! !

R.D.,

Remember bootcamp, yellow footprints, hurry up and wait all the way to the kill zone. Becoming a Marine is eternally progressive. What we pass on down here will exemplify the Devil Dog of the 21st century and beyond. If a pup don't wanna listen, then they'll just have to get the scars we already have. Sempers.
