Good day,

Back in 1981 I was serving as a Corpsman and stationed at the helicopter base in Tustin, CA. On February 11th, a CH-53 and a CH-46 collided in mid air over the base. Six Marines were killed, but one, by the grace of God, survived. I took care of him on the ride to the ER and saw him at the memorial service. I have often wondered how he is doing and pray for him often. I have researched the internet trying to learn his name, but to no avail.

Any help to locate him would be much appreciated. I don't have any other information other than he was on the CH-53.

And a big thanks to the Marine Corps for taking such good care of me between 1977 and 1981. Some of the best memories in my life! Kilo Co. 3rd Bat. 3rd Mar. 1st. Mar. Brigade and VMFP3

The mans name was Jose Rivera, We called him "Big JR" An e-4 at the time. he lived in the cube next to me and was a good friend. He's from New York City. We on boarded HMH-462 at about the same time. i got out in early 83 but he was planning to reup. don't know if he did or not. He had another good friend named Don Eldred from upstate new York. Hope that helps it's about all ican dredge up at this late date.

This image, by Don McCullin, is of a US Marine prior to or during the battle for Hue, 1968; of course I don't have to tell you that, you all know. It has been used on the front cover of a book, The Scars of War, by Hugh McManners.

The image was also used by the Wikileaks creator Julian Assange during a recent press conference. A UK journalist has posed the question - who is he? Is he still alive? The inference is that the correlation between the courage of the US Marine, and Assange is unbalanced.

I would appreciate your help.

Aye, Rob.

Hey, Doc.
For the most part I operated a M135, Jeep mounted , it was mounted over the rear right tire. Once in a great while I got to humpa PRC 25 with a KY38. No fun there. Ran into a WM back in the mid-80's, she was Comm. When I told her I operated mux gear, she called me a dinosaur. Apparently, by that time, mux was a museum piece.

My name is Xavier Thompson, I’m a 30 year old male searching for my biological Father. I was told his name is Derrick Melbourne a Marines service man back in the 80’s. I was also told he has family back in Miami Florida. I have been searching for years to reach out to Mr. Derrick but have been unsuccessful. All I know is that he should be around 50 to 55 years of age. He was from the Cayman Islands and he was stationed in Okinawa Japan in the 1980’s. If you have a relative and know of him please send me an email at zaymiami305@yahoo.com or I can be reached at 305-370-9417.please pass to fellow marine Thanks in advance,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

So everyone will know: I've no problems with an alien coming to this country in the right way as they as they obey our laws & live by them. It's the illegals that TICK me off. I say send the Marines to guard (?) the border & not let the Gov't keep them from doing their job. As for the Border Guard who shot (in the head) that 16yr. old Mexican boy; give him a two week paid vacation & a raise. As for the boy's family wanting to sue this Country for $25m-tell them they're lucky they weren't shot in the head & if they try crossing again it's shoot first & ask questions later. If I live to see this Country fall, the Marines will be the last to defend it.

Response:
I believe the Marine you are talking about was named Jose Rivera, from Brooklyn, NY...I think he was a TME student...I was with 164 at the time, and this hit us pretty hard...Robert Eibach was the crewchief on our bird (CH-46E), and he was a very good friend of mine and my husband's (we were the Sullins couple in the unit). Hard to believe it has been 30 years this past week!

Years ago, my sister found an old photo of a young Marine. It was left in a motel she purchased in Hermann, Missouri. The picture is his photo and the Platoon he was in at Parris Island. The platoon is 2078, D company. The drill instructors were SSgt Slappey, SSgt Wright, SSgt Sampson, and SSgt Hamblen.

I've tried on several occations to try to find this Marine, or his family. I know he graduated boot camp at least 15 years ago. There is no date on the photos.

This is my last attempt. So, if anyone knows this Marine or his family, or if you have more ideas on how to locate him, please respond. If he is still alive, I think he would want these pictures. And if he isn't, then I know his family would treasure them.

I am looking at starting this, www.OldWarHorses.us (http://www.oldwarhorses.us/) I am working on it now, tell me what you think and where to post it if you agree with the concept. Basically in shoort, short, retired marines , retire to Costa Rica to a small town that needs minimal protection. Starting a sanctioned security force. More of a secret police than a miltary force. A chance to really make a difference, enjoy a beautiful country, and enjoy life and watch out for the peole. Pay would not be much, but planning on free housing and food and small maybe $400 a month, not bad for there though. Ideas apprecited from any marine. I am looking for maybe a major or captain to head it up also.

McGowan's long journey back almost complete
Dustin McGowan The 29-year-old hasn't pitched in the Major Leagues two years ago, he was forced to undergo a series of major surgeries that at least temporarily derailed a once-promising career.
Dustin McGowan has gone through a long time and hard painful road to get well, but there finally appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel in a rehab that has been more than three years in the making.
McGowan now appears to be on the verge of fighting the odds and nearing a return. The native of Savannah, Ga., is on the path back to Toronto and is optimistic that when September rolls around, he'll be ready to complete the comeback.
McGowan told MLB (http://www.wealthmass.com/Sports-outdoors/Mlb-jerseys-Mlb-jersey-Beseball-Jerseys-Baseball-jersey/Milwaukee-Brewers/).com during an interview at the club's Minor League complex in Dunedin, Fla., "I do, I see the end a little bit,"late last week. "But you still have to take it day by day and just get better.
McGowan said "That has been my goal from the start of this year. September, get back to the big leagues, and get back to pitching up there."
McGowan came to the Toronto Blue Jays (http://www.wealthmass.com/Sports-outdoors/Mlb-jerseys-Mlb-jersey-Beseball-Jerseys-Baseball-jersey/Toronto-Blue-Jays/)' organization with lofty expectations when he was selected in the first round of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft.
It appeared McGowan had finally arrived and would be a mainstay in the Blue Jays' rotation for years to come.
The hard luck continued the following season, though, as McGowan took himself out of a game on July 8, 2008, with soreness in his right shoulder, and he later underwent surgery to repair a frayed labrum.
In 2009, the health problems continued as McGowan had surgery to repair cartilage in his right knee. The biggest blow came the following year, when it was revealed that he had a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder and then underwent a procedure that usually requires at least six months of rehab.
McGowan has been slowly working his way back into form since. He took up residency just outside of Dunedin and has spent countless hours working out at the Bobby Mattick Training Center. By McGowan's side for the entire journey has been his wife, Jilly, and daughter, McKensy.
"If I didn't have them, I would be crazy right now, The one good thing about all of this is that right when I got hurt the first time, my daughter was born, so I've gotten to watch her grow up. ?McGowan said.

Hello Everyone,
I am looking any info on a Victor Stoyanow, not sure when he was in or when he retired ( but I am told that he did retire from the Marines ). I do know that by 1964 he was retired and living in Southern California. After his retirement he was a part-time writer and wrote articles about desert exploration. Anyone with information on him or the whereabouts of his family would be greatly appreciated....

Thank You
John

John, you might pursue California obituaries, etc on this Victor to see if he is the one.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=3433876

And search for him on <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:DoNotOptimizeForBrowser/> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:DoNotOptimizeForBrowser/> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]-->http://pipl.com/. Perhaps the articles I found there were your Victor.

Best of luck my friend......

You might want to check Ancestry.com (subscription required) as who you may be looking for (having this DOB: 8/14/1921, Died: 10/28/1970, served in Marines from 9/23/1946 until 10/5/1962 and was a Major) is in their database, but not showing any other living family.

MARIAH
09-10-11, 03:55 PM
John, Ancestry.com can certainly give you some info depending upon what you are after. Especially if any of his family have been compiling their ancestors.

You might want to start your search by calling Alexander Victor Stoyanow in California and spreading out there. SEE HIS PHONE AND ADDRESS BELOW:

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:DoNotOptimizeForBrowser/> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--> Here are a few Stoyanow:
http://www.lookupanyone.com/namelistings/victor-stoyanow.html
I would start with those in California since that is where he is buried. If you need to search others on the list just go to ZABASEARCH and enter names and state. With luck you will have a phone number if they have a hard line and at least an address to write. There are only a few in California.

I would start with this one, right name structure and probably the right age:
Alexander Victor Stoyanow (http://www.lookupanyone.com/background.php?ReportType=8&records=1&recordid=002450047664&LimitedPackageID=304) 58 San Diego, CA previous addresses Poway, CA El Cajon, CA. Relatives: Sara L Webb, Michael A Stroyanow, Stephen Alexander Stoyanow, Sara Lee Stoyanow, Norma F Stoyanow
GIVE HIM A CALL: (ALEXANDER V STOYANOW (http://www.intelius.com/redir.php?refer=3123&adword=PS.SING.RESULTS.NAME&qf=ALEXANDER&qn=STOYANOW&qc=CA&qa=9373%20STARGAZE&qs=CA&name_style=1) 9373 STARGAZE , SAN DIEGO, CA 92129 (http://www.zabasearch.com/query1_process.php?sname=92129) , (858) 780-0742 (http://www.intelius.com/redir.php?refer=3123&adword=PS.SING.RESULTS.REVPHONE2&phone=%28858%29%20780-0742))

http://www.zabasearch.com/maps/?sname1=ALEXANDER%20VICTOR%20STOYANOW&sname=ALEXANDER%20V%20STOYANOW&first=ALEXANDER&last=STOYANOW&middle=V&state=CA&address=9373%20STARGAZE&city=SAN%20DIEGO&zipcode=92129&&cm=08&cy=2003&phone=%28858%29%20780-0742&int_var=3

A copy of his obit would be useful but that was back in 1970. Surely it would have been printed in their major newspapers of the time.

It's simple "MIND OVER MATTER" my body say's it hurts and my mind say's it don't matter. I was the Weapons Platoon Sergeant with Fox 2/7, 1st. Mar. Div. San Mateo 1975-'76. At this point in my life I may not be able to lead, but I can't advance to rear either, Guess I'll have to fall in behind the platoon with the "Sick, Lame and Lazy, Crippled, Blind and Crazy". 0331 M-60 Machinegunners, Up and on Shoulders.... Exercise. All of my deuce gear is ready to go along with my Customized S.A. M1A Counter Sniper, Hell I'll even bring my own ammo can anybody hook me up with a ride to Iraq ? will get you nowhere...I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, and went to your facebook page as you suggested, but there was nothing there...So I'm confused as to what you are trying to prove.
I give everyone an opportunity to show their colors but you have done nothing to do so, except run your "Pie-Hole"...
Anyone can post a photo and say "Hey" that's me in the top right, next to you know who....
If you are a Marine, which I doubt now, you should have never got yourself into this mess to begin with.
I'm sorry that I even went to this thread as I don't like to be in the same sentence of someone like you....

The LVT E-1 was an Amtrac Engineering vehicle. It was designed to land on the beach, shoot out a 350 foot 1,750 pound line charge of C4 with a sidewinder rocket, blow up a mine field, and then we...

sgthammer
10-22-11, 01:19 PM
I remember the LVT's although we never had need for the E-1's. We still used them at K-Bay before they came out with the newer Aluminum ones that would float without the engine running. I also remember being the 3rd. man out when it sank in 50 feet of water because the Track-Rat couldn't get it restarted. I was Very happy when we changed from Amtracks to CH-46 Choppers. I also have memories of an Ontos and how P.O.'d my buddy would get when he (being the lowest ranking man) had to climb outside to reload all six barrels.... What Armored Vehicle ? I was also lucky enough to be one of the Last Marines to carry a Flame Thrower at Pendleton before it was phased out and replaced with the Multi-Shot 4 tube launcher. As a Squad Leader I carried an M-79 Blooper where as all the Army guy's would laugh at me because they had the M-203..... Aaaahh The good 'Ol day's, gone forever (Some Marines are glad) but I miss them. Semper Fi.

I honestly believe that you have found some Marines. Some you and some Old. At 56 I love to talk to those older than me because the Crops has changed so so much. The young people dont even know how much boot camp has changed. For example, I remember getting into Parris Island and how things changed real fast. If the Di's were able to do some of the things that they did back than now, some marines would not be calling themselves Marines, they may have become a member of other brunch of the service.
