Camp Lejeune Marine dies in Kuwait

A Camp Lejeune Marine died in Kuwait on Saturday of an apparent heart attack, according to a II Marine Expeditionary Force press release.

Lance Cpl. Chadwick A. Gilliam, 29, of Mayking, Ky. was an infantryman with 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. He joined the Marine Corps on June 25, 2007 and was promoted to lance corporal on March 1, 2008, according to the press release.

His decorations include the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Gilliam's official cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy.

Services set for Kentucky Marine

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — A Marine from Kentucky died of apparent cardiac arrest at a U.S. base in Kuwait.

The Marine Corps said Tuesday that Lance Cpl. Chadwick A. Gilliam, 29, of Mayking in Letcher County died Saturday. An autopsy is pending.

Lance Cpl. Gilliam was a member of 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit from Camp Lejeune. He was an infantryman and joined the unit June 25, 2007. WYMT-TV in Hazard reported that he attended the old Whitesburg High School in the mid 1990s.

The funeral will be Saturday at noon at Letcher Funeral Home. Visitation is 6-10 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
