Area residents enlist in the U.S. Marines

A number of area people have been enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps under the Delayed Entry Program at Marine Corps Recruting Station Springfield in Chicopee.

Curtis R. Cook, son of Karen Cook of Leominster, has enlisted.

Cook is a 2008 graduate of Leominster High School of Leominster.

Eric P. Sparks, son of Mary M. Sparks of Westminster and Richard P. Sparks of Lunenburg, has enlisted. Sparks is a 2007 graduate of Oakmont Regional High School of Ashburnham.

Thomas K. Johnson, son of Cinthia Alden of Sterling, nd Scott Johnson of Hillsboro, N. H., has enlisted.

Jeffrey K. Denio, a 2007 graduate of Fitchburg High School, Fitchburg, has enlisted.

Devin J. Martines, son of Brenda and Dennis Martines of Lunenburg, has enlisted. Martines is a 2008 graduate of Lunenburg High School.

Michael A. Douglas, son of Jennifer Moore of Ashburnham and Gerald Douglas of Gardner, has enlisted. Douglas will be completing his senior year at Gardner High School.

Keith M. Lorenzen, son of Christine and Andrew Lorenzen of Ashburnham, has enlisted. Lorenzen is a 2007 graduate of Oakmont High School of Ashburnham.

Anthony J. Liberatore, son of Joanne and Richard Liberatore of Fitchburg. has enlisted. Liberatore is a 2008 graduate of Monty Technical High School of Fitchburg.

The program allows recruits to enter the Marine Corps and take up to one year to complete prior commitments such as high school. Using recruiter as mentors, this program helps recruits ease into the transition from civilian to military life.
