Volt Co-Founder Jerome Shaw Receives Recognition for Support of U.S. Navy Sailors and Marines and Hire America’s Heroes Program

SEATTLE — Volt Information Sciences, Inc. (NYSE: VOL), a global provider of technology infrastructure, information-based services and staffing solutions, today announced that Executive Vice President and Co-Founder Jerome Shaw has received a commendation from the U.S. Navy Northwest Region for his support of U.S. Navy Sailors and Marines and the Hire America’s Heroes Program.

Hire America's Heroes is a non-profit organization that seeks to connect corporate America with the skills and abilities of exiting military veterans. Founded in 2007 by Volt and other leading Seattle-based corporations, Hire America’s Heroes is chartered to engage interested corporations in conferences, networking events, and other activities designed to promote the sourcing, recruiting, hiring, on-boarding, support, and retention of America’s military service members and veterans. Close to 400 representatives from Fortune 1000 and other corporations, Federal and State government, educational institutions, non-profit foundations, advocacy groups, and personnel from all branches of the military participated in a day-long symposium held recently.

Commenting on Volt’s support of Hire America’s Heroes and Mr. Shaw’s involvement, RDML James A. Symonds, Commander, Navy Region Northwest said, “The Hire America's Heroes initiative may not have gotten off the ground, and certainly wouldn't have matured as quickly as it has without the sincere backing of Mr. Jerome Shaw, founder of Volt. Mr. Shaw is a former Navy Radio Technician who started Volt with his late brother, William, with no more than $13 investment. From that beginning they built what is now a $2.3 billion enterprise. Further Mr. Shaw and Volt are routinely recognized for forward thinking leadership. In this instance, Mr. Shaw's ‘service above self’ mantra has put the spark into an outstanding initiative by several corporations in the Northwest to connect transitioning armed forces members with hiring managers. Recognizing that these corporations need good new employees and our veterans are great people who need good jobs, Hire America's Heroes will certainly be a win-win for all involved, and should be copied throughout the nation.”

Steve Shaw, President and CEO of Volt commented, “The entire Volt organization is committed to help create employment opportunities for our military heroes who have put their lives in jeopardy practically every day. We are proud that Jerry Shaw’s efforts in support of the Hire America’s Heroes initiative are being recognized.”

The award was presented to Mr. Shaw at the second annual Hire America’s Heroes Symposium held at Navy Base Kitsap-Bangor near Seattle, WA.
