Marines with Toys for Tots Help Out El Cajon Family
Last Update: 12/19 11:55 pm

It's not everyday you see a group of current and retired Marines outside your motel room door but that's exactly what happened Friday in El Cajon.

Marines working with Toys for Tots surprised an El Cajon family.

"We came to give you a Merry Christmas," said former U.S. Marine Corps drill instructor R. Lee Ermey.

The Palmitier girls didn't mind the early wake up call at all, as they took the toys from Ermey, who's best known for his many film and TV appearances.

The girls have been living in a motel room for the last several weeks, ever since their parent's home was foreclosed.

Their father, retired Navy gunner Patrick Palmitier, recently lost his job.

"Everybody comes together," said Patrick. "It's the beautiful part about this time of year. Everybody gets the Christmas spirit."

An e-mail to a local radio station shared the story of the Palmitier family, and that's when the Marines with Toys for Tots got involved.

The Palmitier girls found themselves with dollhouses, bikes, and all other kinds of goodies.

One of the Palmitier girls was heard shouting, "We are going to have the best Christmas ever. Yay!"
