CAMP H.M. SMITH, Hawaii — (From left to right) 1st Lt. Luke Gaffney, Toys for Tots coordinator, Mel Ing, Navy League golf director, Lt. Gen. John F. Goodman (Ret.), Navy League honorary co-chair, Lt. Gen. Keith J. Stalder, commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, Carole Hickerson, Navy League volunteer coordinator, P. Pasha Baker, Navy League honorary co-chair, Capt. Jack Hickerson, (Ret., U.S. Navy), Navy League board member, and Donald A. Morrison, President of the Navy League Honolulu Council are in attendance as the Navy League of the United States, Honolulu Council, presents a $7,000 check to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s annual Toys for Tots campaign Dec. 19.

“The Navy League has been heavily involved with the Toys for Tots campaign for a long time,” said Morrison. “We want to help out when we can. We are proud to present this check to an organization dedicated to a great cause.”

Toys for tots has been making the holidays brighter for less-fortunate children nationwide since 1947. Since then, more than 370 million toys have been distributed to more than 173 million children.

“Every little bit helps, and we are grateful that the Navy League has helped along the way,” said Gaffney.

He explained that all cash donations the campaign receives are used to purchase toys for age groups in which requests have yet to be filled by actual toy donations.

“This has been a successful year for the Toys for Tots campaign in Hawaii,” Gaffney said. Even though this has been a hard year for so many people, they have not forgotten about giving to the less-fortunate keiki (children) in Hawaii.”

This year, the Salvation Army is handling requests and distribution of the toys.

All donations made to the Toys for Tots campaign in Hawaii, stay in Hawaii.
