I found it rather ironic that one of the posts before mine was by 1ofthefew.

The Corps always taught us we are one of the "fewer and prouder" as WM's and it is always better to be a BAM, than a HAM!

I served from 1977-80, spent my 18th birthday at PI, and then headed to Camp Lejeune as the Base Sgt Major's driver and aid.

Now I am a Marine mom, so I may have to tap into the resources here for my son.

Looking forward to hearing from some of you.

Semper fi,

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I'm sure I'll enjoy my tour here.

That's right Rick, Deanna was the one I was waiting for to relieve me from the sh**ter bunnin detail. LOL. Sorry Deanna, but like they say, sh*t rolls down hill. I'm sure someone will relieve you soon also. I only had it for a few hours.

By the way, Deanna, I'm sorry the Mighty Ducks lost the Stanley Cup tonight. I was hoping they would win. They had a great season just the same.

Well I must hit the rack now. Lots to do tomorrow. Good night Marines! Thanks again.

Semper Fi,
Jeff

After 1 year of college on a partial baseball scholarship, Brandon decided to quit and serve his country. Since both of his grandfathers were Marines, (Iwo and South Pacific) as well as both of his parents, it would have been treason for him to even think of anything other than the Corps.

He finished boot at SD (Hollywood Marine) in January, and is now finishing MOS at Dam Neck, NMITC. Will be heading to Camp Lejeune later this month to 1st Intel BN. He received his first stripe out of boot (you can bet his dad and I pinned him).

On a side note:
1. Have I been relegate to the WM barracks? Did I stumble into the wrong forum?
2. I am not from CA, so I wasn't too sad with the Ducks outcome. Although, I would love to see any team beat the Devils. (I'm a Capitals fan!)

Later boys,

Deanna,

Welcome aboard, and please forgive me for assuming that you are a Ducks fan. Like you, I would rather see anyone but the Devils win the Stanley Cup.

Thank you for your service to the Corps. I hope to see more of you on the boards.

Semper Fi,
Jeff

Between coming from a true Marine family, and getting that first stripe in basic, he has a solid head start in the Corps! I bet the competition in the family can be awesum!! Semper Fi!

Deanna, I seem to recall a posting over at Grits with about the same info on you and your Son...Am I in the ballpark?

Right fine job the boy did coming out of boot...I felt the same pride when my Nephew came out wearin' his first chevron!

So many posts, so little time.

BTW, Bones, I am not defensive. I am just new to the boards and wanted to be sure I was following the rules. You have to admit, you male Marines can be pretty territorialistic at times(heck, all the time).

Drifter, don't tell anyone, but I am a spirited red head. How else would I survive 3 older brothers and the Marine Corps? My dad, God bless his soul, used to say I was the best "son" he ever had. (None of my brothers joined the Marines.) I gave old Sgt Major Capehart a run for his money at Lejeune, too.

As for the grit site, yeah, I have slipped in there a time or two. I also frequent the MMO yahoo site, helping moms of recruits and new Marines get acclimated.

Thanks for all of your kind words of welcome. I look forward to chatting with you all.

1ofthefewer, the main rule we have around here is to keep yer weapons pointed outside the wire and downrange, darlin'! :D Other than that, Welcome Home, Marines.

Bones, I can go along with that!

Just wondering. Are concealed weapons are allowed? (snicker)

I better not say what I was thinkin'. I might get another post deleted by Admin! LMAO.

Oh, what the hell.

I never knew a woman who needed more weapons than the good lord gave her! Givin' her a black belt, a K-Bar and an M-16 is just superfluous! :D

I mostly hung out in Barrio Barretto - hence the nick name. More quiet. Whiskey River for a time and the Blue Parrot. Our unit would hang out at Boodles - my gunner would come by in his jeep, give orders to mount up and off we went!

In Olongapo is was Peso Jimmy's. Great place! No girls unless you escorted them in. At one time, this was the only place with cold beer. After Jimmy died, we took up a collection to help his wife pay the taxes on the place so she could keep it open.

I did hit a few of the main sights as well - Cal Jams, Mariposa's, Sierra Club - and a lot that I didn't care the name of as long as the beer was cold and cheap (again, why I went out to the Barrio - saved near 5 pesos a bottle out there!) Was in one bar where I rode the mechanical bull. Good thing I was drunk when I did it - else I coulda got hurt!
