I have the day off today...a much needed mental health day...and I happened to catch the Dr. Phil show. Now, I never put much stock in much of these talk shows...much less Dr. Phil. But he had an interesting topic for today.

His topic was about helping our veterans and finding out the reasons for all the bureacracy reasons for the pizz poor VA system and its healthcare. It was enlightening really. The politicians claim they don't know anything and yet they still do nothing about it. There was a Congressman on there saying that government and VA fficials need to be arrested for whats happening to our veterans...and I whole heartedly agree.

But after all the smoke cleared...there was a some information passed about a group of 183 board certified Plastic Surgeons and Doctors who make up a group called the Iraq Star Foundation. They have Doctors and Surgeons in 38 states and Canada that are willing to work on our veterans who need reconstructive surgery and cannot pay for it.

Their website is... www.IraqStar.org (http://www.IraqStar.org) and any veteran waiting to get help from the VA and getting the royal spin can go here and seek their help. I thought this might help someone...if it helps just one person its worth it....SEMPER FI, MARINES...!!!

Few federal programs have seen the kind of turnaround experienced by the Veterans Affairs Department's health care system in the late 1990s. Formerly a poster child for substandard medical care and incompetent management, VA's health care system now is considered by many to be the best in the country. Its ratings for quality of care and customer satisfaction have risen even as the patient load has increased. Major media outlets have credited the agency's use of electronic medical records, unprecedented even in the private sector, with improving medical care, and Democratic presidential contenders Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have held up VA's system as a model for nationwide health care reform.

I wonder what will happen to my service connected disability once Obama forces every American into his Health Care Program forcing all of us to buy into it no matter what you have now. I guess being a disabled war vet will really mean nothing in the future.

I just finished meeting with an Army soldier who's looking to buy a home in the area and something he told me as he left stuck with me.

He's been getting treated for the past year or so at Walter Reed for a few 7.62 rounds he received while in Iraq.

He said at Walter Reed, it's very clear who the Marines are because whenever a Marine is brought anywhere in that hospital or the surrounding grounds, ANYWHERE, there is ALWAYS a Marine escort of usually 4-6 other healthy Marines helping him around.

He said it's remarkable and something that impressed the crap out of him, but you won't see that for his Army brothers or any other branch for that matter.

Sad that the other branches can't do that, but it makes me proud and I feel good deep down inside to hear that Marines are taking care of their own.
