Ermey will hold two meet and greet sessions this weekend on base

Actor and former Marine R. Lee Ermey will be making appearances on Camp Pendleton Saturday and Sunday in support of the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
The Marine Corps icon will hold meet and greet sessions at the Mainside Country Store from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at San Onofre’s Seaside Square on Sunday.

“(Ermey) comes to this area every year to support the Toys for Tots program,” said Greg Merritt, a friend and spokesperson of Ermey. “It is an extremely worthwhile program and one of the many ways the gunny is able to give back.”

To many, Ermey has built a unique career for himself. He is both a decorated Marine and a celebrated actor. While serving as an active-duty Marine, Ermey completed a 14-month tour in Vietnam and earned the Combat Action Ribbon. In his extensive acting career, Ermey is most recognizable as the hard-nosed drill instructor Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in Stanley Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket,” for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe award.

Even after his success as an actor, Ermey has maintained his commitment to the Marine Corps by taking every opportunity to give back, especially when it comes to troops on the front lines.

“If this man is not in touch with the American fighting men and women, nobody is,” added Merritt.

“Through the inspiration that he has given to so many young men and women, our military has grown to what it is today.”

Those planning to meet Ermey are encouraged to bring new unwrapped toys to donate to the Toys for Tots program.
