Murray Runs Marine Corps Marathon

Jim Murray ran the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC on Sunday, Oct. 26, to celebrate the 45th anniversary of his enlistment in the U.S. Marine Corps. Murray had signed up to run each of the last five years but could not get into marathon shape. Tennis and paddle did not provide quite enough training.

The run started at the Pentagon, ran past Arlington Cemetery, wended along both banks of the Potomac through the early morning mist. Then proceeded up and down the National Mall, past the Capitol, the Reflecting Pool, the Tidal Basin, back across the Potomac and again past Arlington Cemetery with bands playing and fans and Marines cheering, to a very emotional finish at the Iwo Jima Memorial.

Murray said, "It was truly a memorable, moving experience and dedicated this run to all our troops, not just the Marines, who have served and are serving and have died in Afghanistan and Iraq. Semper Fi."
