New Navy Transport Ship Arrives in San Diego

SAN DIEGO - The Navy's newest San Antonio class amphibious transport dock ship arrived at its future homeport in San Diego Wednesday.
The Green Bay docked at Naval Base San Diego, where it will stay over the holiday season before being commissioned in Long Beach on Jan. 24, according to Naval Surface Forces public affairs.
The 684-foot-long ship is the fourth ship in the Navy's San Antonio class.
The Green Bay, which can embark a landing force of about 800 Marines, will support amphibious, special operations and expeditionary warfare missions, according to the Navy.
It can carry landing craft air cushion vehicles, expeditionary fighting vehicles and the Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft.
