SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A former Marine recruiter learned Monday that he will spend the next year in a Sacramento jail.

Former Sgt. Victor Sanchez-Millan, 24, pleaded no contest in October to two felony counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and two misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He worked as a recruiter in Roseville, Calif., according to Sacramento County District Attorney Jan Scully.

Last April Sanchez-Millan befriended a high school junior at a job fair after she expressed interest in the Marines. He was 23 at the time. The victim was 17.

Prosecutors said the friendship turned into a two-month-long sexual relationship that included several dates involving his government-issued vehicle.

According to the district attorney’s office, the victim’s parents thought she was attending official recruiting events. Sanchez-Millan was arrested in August.

Sanchez-Millan was also sentenced to five years probation. He will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
