You know absolutely nothing about today's Marine Corps. The same crap that is happening nowadays has been happening all along. There is nothing new.

I think that you are wrong SS, I have never heard of this kind of crap during my time in the Corps. Maybe you need to talk to some Marines that were in a little before your time. I believe that what we are seeing now is just a general reflection of todays society.

Don't get your point. And if you know this kinda sh-t is going on why isn't it reported? People murder, rape, assault etc etc people every day, doesn't justify any of it. And we as Marines should be held to a higher standard if we are going to claim to be the best.

This crap has always been around. Just never publicized like it is today. With todays society the way it is and with the war going on, Military people in general are being looked at harder now. Next thing you know, they will be trying to tie this idiots (SSgt Oden) actions to the war.

Don't read into my post mcvet. By no means is it right and he should have his sword taken away from him as far as I care. If it was my daughter, he would have never had the time to get arrested. The cops would have to of shown up at his funeral to arrest him. I was just stateing that this kind of crap has been going on for many many years. No one really cared enough about it before to get "involved". Like most crimes of the past and some of today, people don't want to get "involved" by reporting it or coming forward as a witness.

Marines today are under much more scrutiny than ever before by the anti-military nuts. So they need to be extra careful. The drive by media jumps all over the Corps every time this happens. We all suffer, by association. When a Marine discredits himself he also to some extent, especially to civilians who don't know the Corps, discredits all of us. At the very least this sh-tbird should lose all rank and get a BCD. That is if he is found guilty.

I agree. We all need to pay a little more attention to detail when it comes to how we act and conduct ourselves. It's just in your first post, you asked what the Marine Corps is coming to these days. The Corps is the same as it always has been just under the scope more today than 20 yrs ago. No big deal, we will work through it and still come out on top.

And brother, if you are really having a hard time admitting your a Marine because of f*ckups like this, put on another layer of skin. I would admit that I am a Marine anytime and anywhere. Don't care if it was at this j*ckasses execution.

Semper FidelisIt just pizzes me the h-ll off every time I see this chit. I tend to vent raw feelings when I'm really torqued. At work I have some people (ex-Army, and Air Farce) who love to make a big announcement in the break room every time this kinda stuff hits the news. Give me some incite Gunny on how to handle these azzholes without making my job harder, or getting me fired. I know this kinda stuff has been going on for years. I was a Chaser at Lejeune. I had to escort some pretty sad excuses for Marines from the brig to JAG and back.

Either way Cpl., you are talking about having respect and honor, so at least start by showing it to the people you are talking to(this particular GUNNERY SERGEANT), even if you disagree with what they say....he still deserves to be addressed as his rank he earned, as well as the SSgt. you are arguing with.

But my take is yes, to some extent this crap has always, and will always go on.....weather it be a junior Marine or even a Staff NCO, or even an Officer. There will always be those few who dont truly care about the uniform they wear or that the others the serve with wear. Yes, it is getting publicized more nowadays, but everything is, and tat wont be stopped.....the only way to stop it is for it to actually end, though chances of that are very slim it is sad to say.

This kind of crap gets deep in my skin also. Sometimes when someone points stuff like this out to me, I just say "Yep... it took a Marine to do it right cause your sorry arse couldn't". Or something down those lines. And do it with a smile. If they see that they are getting under your skin, they will keep doing it. They will push your buttons just for entertainment. Don't give them the satisfaction of walking out of the break room either. Joke with them about it (even though you are ****ed) or just ignore them.

Wife thinks I should just ignore them, but she's ex-Army. All the pizzant lower ladder coworkers all laugh along with em when they say their crap. I'm not thin skinned, just hate having the Corps dissed. Never to old to learn. And yes these guys do it cuz they know it pizzes me off. Have thought about "requesting mast" with the driver manager over this. It really makes for a tense work environment. Trouble is, I have over 30 years experience driving, but I've only been at this job for 3 years and these azzholes have been there 25. Not unionized, but because of their years there they can pretty much do and say anything they want and get away with it. This old fart says Semper Fi and thanks for your dedication and sacrifice.

This type of stuff negativity is nothing new to the Corps. Two incidents that I recall during my time, Marine MPs burglarized the PX warehouse at MCAS Tustin and a Marine murdered Hanna at Iwakuni. This was in 1979 and 1977 respectivley. Times have changed with media scrutiny. There will always be scumbags in the Marine Corps, just like any part of society.

Explain to me how I am showing disrespect to the Gunny. If you are refering to me calling him "Gunny", when I was in "Gunny" was a term we used when we addressed a GunnerySgt one on one. I remember it being a term of respect and admiration. Maybe that's changed now. If it has, no disrespect was intended, and the GunnerySgt has my appologies. I have the utmost repect and admiration for all who serve in the Corps. If you think I was disrespectful, it wasn't my intention. If you follow my past posts in other threads you will see it. I would go a bit further actually and state I am humbled by Marines serving today. Their Honor, Courage, and Sacrifice for there country should always be admired and never forgotten. Semper Fi.

I think he was referring to the one post where you said KAW. I really don't give a ****e. You could call me jackarse for all I care. I have been called worse in the past and will in the future. I have always been sorta laid back yet very demanding. Thats why all of my Marines have always felt they could come talk to me about anything yet they knew I would break it off in their arse when needed. To me Gunny is not even close to be disrespectful. Even if it is in front of others. I only call someone Gunnery Sergeant when I don't like them. And they know know it to.

LMAO....hey boot, MCVET was in 14 years before you were BORN. How bout you show those that came before us some respect too? If the Gunny's got a problem then the Gunny can correct him himself. Since when does a boot Lance have to come to a "GUNNERY SERGEANT'S" rescue?

ANYWAYS, I couldnt begin to touch on wether incidents like these have always been around or not, in the grand scheme of things I guess you could say I'm also a boot, came in in 2003. But I do know when things like this happen, this is when we need to come together even more and prove to the world what the Marine Corps is really all about. There are turds everywhere in society - the clergy, law enforcement, everywhere. The military is no exception. Alls we can do when this type of stuff go down, I think, is just hold our heads up high and be proud of who we are and never let anything like this take even an ounce of that pride.

Ok, my point was that if you want to complain that the Corps is losing its honor and pride, then why not set the example yourself, other wise what good would it do to just whine about it. How often does that accomplish something. And are you not told to act the rank above yours? So yes, I have my respect for the ranks above me, and therefore I say what I would say to any Marine, junior or senior to me, if I feel they need to be corrected or even just asked to check themselves. I did nothing wrong, and was tactful with the request, and I feel nothing more can be asked.
