Good Afternoon,

I'm a young man who's going to enlist fairly soon. One of the MOS's I've looked into is Linguistics, but can't seem to find a Marine who has chosen that particular path.

My question is this: What should a newly minted Marine expect at DLI? Furthermore, to which specific languages do Marines seem to be assigned? Is there anything I can do to prepare for DLI and the prospect of learning two languages at once?

Thanks for your help.

If I may, I'd also like to add another question.

Generally speaking, what would a Marine Corp linguist do every day? I understand that translating may be at the very top of that list, but from the one source I've read so far Translator is a different MOS but still under the 27 series "umbrella".

Not a linguist but Rosetta Stone can help. It will get you conversational and will help the transition to the super tough classes at DLI. The problem is; you don't know where you're going. That will help determine what language they want you to learn.

If you already know a second language then talk to a recruiter about it.
