WOW that is awesome, dude. I'm only the second person in my entire family to join the military (older cousin joined the navy) so it must be really cool to be able to uphold a tradition like that.

Just one question though...no pics of daddy Wookie? LOL....

hahaha you read that eh?

Yea I think its great to be able to carry on the tradition. The only two from my generation in my family to carry it on are myself and my cousin Josh who is with 1-12 Cav out of Ft. Hood.....oh my cousins husband Billy is Army Communications I forgot about that.

But there has been an ancestor of mine in every single American Conflict. One of my most prized possessions besides my photos and letters and diaries is an 1877 Springfield Trapdoor that was issued to my Great Great Grandfather during the Spanish American War.

Wow, that is awsome. Same here to, I wish I had pictures tho, but my family keeps them in a "safe".
But i did inherit all the Uniforms, that have been passed down.
Theres a rumor (i personally dont believe it) that i had an ancestor in the CSMC (Confederate States Marine Corps) i looked that up, and there was one in The War Between the States, but I believe my mom is blowing smoke up my butt.

eh its possible if you are from a southern state and he was serving in the USMC when the war broke out if he was serving in the USMC he more than likely left the USMC and went and joined the CSMC

My whole family comes from Alabama, and I know ive had Ancestors in the War Between the States.
It's just when i told my Mother I was interested in the Marine Corps, she told me about the CSMC.:)

My Grandpa Ray, served as a Gunner's Mate in the Navy from WW2 through Korea and some time after that. The USS Fraser was at the battle of Iwo Jima and fired it's main guns on Mt. Suribachi.

Brothers and Sisters, as I look at these awesome pictures, I have to give myself a big kick in the arshe!! You see, I served with folks that did the battles of WW II and Korea. It never really occured to this young Marine (me) to thank those folks for what they did or to pick there brains or take their pictures or any of the other stuff that makes history. I say all this to ask you young folks now serving to seek out those "lifers" or old farts and thank them. Take their picture and make lots of notes. When you get to be my age then you can share with the younger folks. Besides, it's refreshing to look back and take a different look at what you did in your earlier days of the Corps. - - End of sermon - -
