Two arrested trying to rob Camp Pendleton exchange

CAMP PENDLETON – Two men are in federal custody after an attempt to rob an exchange on the base Sunday evening was thwarted by Marines from the base provost marshal's office, a Camp Pendleton spokesman said Monday.
The Marines released little information on the incident, which took place Sunday evening at the Stuart Mesa Marine Corps Community Services Exchange.
One man was arrested at the scene Sunday. The other was picked up Monday morning. Both were civilians, the spokesman said.
It was the third holdup attempt at the Stuart Mesa exchange this year, the other two occurring in April and September. There was no word on whether this latest robbery attempt was related to the first two.
Both suspects are being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown San Diego while the Naval Criminal Investigative Service continues to look into the case, the spokesman said.
