Cubic Team Supporting II Marine Expeditionary Force to Receive Special Commendation

SAN DIEGO, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--Dec 2, 2008 -- Several employees of Cubic Applications, Inc., the mission support services business of Cubic Corporation (NYSE:CUB - News), are part of a group of military personnel and civilians who are receiving the Meritorious Unit Commendation from the Secretary of the Navy for their superlative training support of the II Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF).
The II MEF Command Element, which includes military and government employees along with defense contractors, is being recognized for the period January 2004 to December 2005 -- a time when II MEF was heavily involved in training troops for Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and the Joint Task Force Katrina, the military-civilian response to Hurricane Katrina.
"During those two years, we were involved in mission rehearsal and predeployment training for more than 30,000 Marines, sailors, soldiers and airmen," said Skip Clarkson, Cubic's assistant site manager at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, home of II MEF. "It is a very rare honor for defense contractors to receive this high-level recognition, but our greatest satisfaction is to see the men and women of II MEF accomplish their mission and return home safely."
Cubic employees and the other personnel who are part of the commendation will receive their award from Lt. Gen. Richard F. Natonski, Commanding General of the Marine Corps Forces Command (MARFORCOM), during a formal awards ceremony at a later date. In addition to Clarkson, Cubic's employees include Lawrence E. Morton, George T. Colum, Thomas A. Reavis, James. F. Honeycutt, Michael R. Hill, Mary V. Jacocks, Glenn C. Spradling and Michael J. Mulcahy, and Cubic subcontractors Ronny G. Huffman and Laura Ault from Northrop Grumman. Former Cubic employees Scott Remalia, Daniel E. Pultz Jr. and David A. Salzman will also be commended.
Clarkson said Cubic has provided training simulation support to II MEF since 1998. In recent years, the company has evolved from computer-based simulations into live, virtual and constructive (LVC) training, most recently linking Marines operating computers in North Carolina with U.S. Air Force personnel operating an AC-130 simulator in Florida.
"The Cubic employees at this site have taken simulations designed for specific purposes and figured out how to use them for training in ways that no one had anticipated," Clarkson said. "Most of the simulations we have are designed for kinetic events -- combat actions -- but we have used them to create humanitarian scenarios. We have simulated a typhoon sweeping Southwest Asia, and we have replicated a tsunami. Our Cubic team knows how to make the most of existing resources to deliver what our customers want."
