Travel in civies, no matter what. Where's the bus dropping you off at? My guess is that you'll take a cab from the greyhound station to Lejeune. If that's the case, hit the head and changeover into your Alpha's before you catch a ride.

Dont make the mistake I did. The ride on a grey hound will be miserable enough. Wear civies until you get to the final grey hound station, and then change before you take the cab ride.

I checked in on a Sunday night/monday morning at 0200. My mom arranged the flight. Wouldn't recommend it. I only had to do one extra day of working parties but I kept getting lit up because everyone thought I had been there a while. When the rest of my friends got there on tues, I was running around just as lost as them trying to get into my alphas. Woof.

Anyway, don't get into your uniform 'til the last minute. If you get there early, you can probably change there but I don't know the east coast and wouldn't want to get ya in trouble... :thumbdown

I don't think reporting in even happens at MCT anymore. I know I didn't do it. And nobody else that I know did.

Agreed. You don't report in "formally". But you can't show up in jeans and a t-shirt and shout "I'm here". :D

Yeah fresh out of boot I reported to Redstone Arsenal Huntsville, Ala in civies. After a good azz chewin by the CO and First Sgt, and assignment to garbage detail for a week, I never made that mistake again. Not the best first impression. No-one told me in boot I had to report in uniform. But I took my punishment, and was better for it.

Where the FuK did you go to boot camp. Honestly, what the FuK is going on. You can wear your Service Alpha's in public. Holy ****, this stuff ****es me off. If you can't even learn your basic uniform regs, how the FuK are you going to learn what the hell ever your job is.

I once had an instructor say to me after I said ("you might think this is a dumb question, but...") "The only dumb question is the one you don't ask." If he doesn't ask how is he supposed to learn? :scared: People learn quicker from teachers who don't criticize them for asking a question they are confused about. We're a brotherhood here. He's new and boot, give him a break.

Hey ryderkur, what are YOU talking about? All of your pictures are from boot camp, SOI squad bays and Saturday nights in hotels with 30 other underage boots who can't get into the club. SO, what do you know?

You should slow your roll, boot.

I understand, the question is fine, but he said something about knowing we don't wear Alpha's in public. I was ****ed at his lack of BASIC uniform regs. He was obviously referring to Service Alpha's as he mentions checking in. It's my bet he fell asleep during class and woke up when they were saying you don't wear Alpha's in public except as prescribed by a CO referring to Dress Blue Alpha's.

Maybe he had rifle detail that day, or was at dental etc etc. Fall asleep during a class in Boot??!! No way you could fall asleep in class when I was in boot. I guarantee a DI would have dumped your sorry azz on the floor, made you stand at attention for the duration, then thrashed you for hours after the class ended.

OR, when you were in Anti-Terrorism training and they tell you not to travel in them so you aren't a target.

Don't travel in uniform if you don't have to. Regardless if it is in the regs or not.

Again, I'm not arguing any of those points. Take it as you will, but it sounds like to me that he doesn't know you can wear your Service Alpha's in public. Anyways, I'm done arguing as it is pointless, but I'm sure most of you see my point.

Don't travel in uniform if you don't have to. Regardless if it is in the regs or not. That's how far this country has gone down the tubes when a Marine can't travel in uniform inside the U.S. without worrying about terrorists. Sorry state we're in.

Instead od criticizing him try helping him out a little man. Like I said in an earlier post, we are a brotherhood. If a Marine can't count on his fellow Marines to help him who can he count on?

I have an old dumb question???/ {From an old dumb salt}. Why wouldn't you wear Alpha Greens in public? Rode the greyhound many times, and all I did was unbutton the blouse. Cover off, of course.

I wore my Alpha's in public, once. It was the flight from boot leave to MCT in Lejeune. Never again. It's more of an issue of convenience than anything. You don't have to worry about them getting wrinkled etc... Plus, those f*ckers are hot!

I think the only Marines I ever saw wearing Alphas out in town were those who had a court date out in town or those escorting a Marine with a court date out in town.

You are actually told to weat your Alphas for the trip back from boot leave to MCT, and for the trip from MCT to MOS school. I ended up getting a hotel when I got to North Carolina, so I just changed and checked in the next morning.

I know im a little late, but if anyone surches this subject in the future. You actually don't "formally" check into MCT, or MOS school.

When you get to MCT, you get out of the cab to a SOI instructor proly yelling at you. I almost thought I was going to have to stand on some more yellow footprints or some****. Theyll tell you to put your trash down, go into a tiny room, and change into cammys. Then you wait till they get a bunch of you together, and bring you into some briefing crap.

You mean your drill instructors actually told you to fly/ride the bus to MCT IN your alphas? I mean, it's permitted, just terrible advice..

we all travelled in civvies except the idiot ones (You know, "the one" from boot camp")

then we changed into alphas at the airport, and back into cammies once we got to mct. No formal check in or anything. got out of the taxi, walked down the walkway, went inside, handed a pfc our orders, changed into cammies, and then got in a van and went to a squadbay and went to sleep.

Ryder, just remember, I learned this real quick when I picked up lol, Im a corporal and in Iraq. But no matter who you are, you're always a boot to someone, so unless youre around Marines around your TIS, don't call anyone out on boot-ness.

I made the mistake of "check?-ing" a 6 year corporal...yeah...haha

Yes, and for the trip to MOS, from MCT they had us change into alphas before getting onto the buses.

I only remember checking into one place was Iwakuni Japan. Walked in and first thing out of there mouth was "why are you in inform". Anyway other that I cant remember checking in. Are you suppose to march in stand locked and cocked and report in or does that just not happen? Kinda think I would remember that but maybe not.

It's actually not as hard as it sounds, unless you're like 100 lbs.

Plus, you can rent buggies from the airport for like 1 buck!

Yea, you aren't going to want to walk around in your Alphas with a sea bag on your back. Not a good look. By the way, fill out your profile.
