Okinawa-based Marine killed in Iraq

CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — An Okinawa-based Marine infantry officer was killed Tuesday in Iraq, according to a news release.
Capt. Warren A. Frank, 26, of Cincinnati, died "while supporting combat operations" in the Ninevah province, the release said.
He arrived on Okinawa in May and was assigned to 5th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, III Marine Expeditionary Force. He was promoted to captain in August and deployed to Iraq in September.
It was his third combat tour supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, according to the release.
Roy Wergers, a neighbor of Frank’s mother in Maineville, Ohio, told local television station WLWT that Frank was "an instant hero" for his multiple deployments to Iraq, according to a report on the station’s Web site.
Frank graduated from The Citadel in 2004, according to the college’s Web site. He joined the Marine Corps in June 2004.
Frank’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with second award.
As of Wednesday, 4,206 servicemembers have died in Operation Iraqi Freedom since March 2003, according to a Department of Defense Web site.
