The Commonwealth of Virginia is paying permanent tribute to Lance Corporal Daniel Todd Morris of Crimona. Friday a bridge along Route 620 in Spottswood was dedicated to the fallen marine. "He was my baby; he loved his friends, his brother, his country." said Morris' mother Carol Moneymaker.

Morris died in February of 2007 near Al Anbar province. Moneymaker says her son's decision to sign up and serve his country was natural. "His thoughts were if we didn't go over there and get them, they were going to come over here and get us and he wanted to prevent that," Moneymaker said.

Morris' friends and family turned out for the dedication ceremony for the 2005 graduate of Wilson Memorial High School. Morris' stepfather Donnie Moneymaker says his stepson knew he wanted to go into the Marines since he was a little kid. "He loved the Marines. He was going to re-up and probably make a career out of it. He thought it was the greatest thing he had ever done with his life."

Carol Moneymaker says she hopes the Lance Corporal Daniel Todd Morris Memorial Bridge reminds drivers of the sacrifices her son made to keep us all free. "It's nice to know that when people cross this bridge, that they'll think of my son at least for a second."
