The Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Band will perform at a holiday concert in December, it was announced Friday.

The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 9 in the Palm Springs Convention Center, said Amy Blaisdell, Palm Springs director of communications.

It will feature 50 Marines performing in ensembles such as a concert band, marching band, brass quintet, saxophone quartet and woodwind quintet, she said.

The event, which is sponsored by the city of Palm Springs, has become a “much-loved event in the Coachella Valley,” said Michele Cirone-Collier, the city's military liaison to the Marine base.

“It's great fun for the entire family and a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season,” Collier said.

The Marine Corps Reserve “Toys for Tots” program and a local food bank will accept canned food and toys donations at the free concert, Blaisdell said.

Last year, over 1,000 toys and 3,800 pounds of canned goods were collected from concertgoers, Blaisdell said.

Free tickets are available at City Hall, 3200 Tahquitz Canyon Way or at the Leisure Center at Sunrise Park, 401 S. Pavilion Way.
