Brazilian Marines visit Camp Lejeune

11/21/2008 By Lance Cpl. Melissa Latty , 2nd Marine Logistics Group

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. —Three members of the Brazilian Marine Corps visited Camp Lejeune, Nov. 15-22, to gain knowledge about the 2nd Marine Logistics Group’s landing support operations.

Brazilian Marine Captain Mauricio Correa De Souza, 1st Sgt. Rudson Cesar Pinto De Goes and 3rd Sgt. Jose Roberto Correia Da Silva, from the Brazilian Marine Corps’ landing support company, were escorted by the Marines of Landing Support Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2nd MLG.

The Brazilians’ goal was to become aware of the techniques, equipment and technology used by the Marine Corps for landing support and to obtain information about vendors of these equipments. They also became familiarized with the organizational structure of LS Co.

“The Brazilian Marines are here to learn how we do business and expand their landing support capabilities,” said 1st Lt. Brendan Shanley, the acting commanding officer of Landing Support Company.

The Brazilians observed the landing support Marines as they performed beach operations throughout the week. The landing support Marines transported supplies and personnel from the USS Bataan, which conducted training operations off the coast of North Carolina.

After watching the landing support Marines perform some of their operations, the Brazilians learned that with higher technology and better equipment they could possibly increase their own capabilities.

“I think if we had the same technology in Brazil, we could reduce the amount of people needed on the beach and more could be in the fight,” Souza said.
