OTTAWA, Nov 20 (Reuters) - Obese people have the right to two seats for the price of one on flights within Canada, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled on Thursday.

The high court declined to hear an appeal by Canadian airlines of a decision by the Canadian Transportation Agency that people who are "functionally disabled by obesity" deserve to have two seats for one fare.
The airlines had lost an appeal at the Federal Court of Appeal in May and had sought to launch a fresh appeal at the Supreme Court. The court's decision not to hear a new appeal means the one-person-one-fare policy stands.

The appeal had been launched by Air Canada (ACa.TO: Quote (http://www.reuters.com/stocks/quote?symbol=ACa.TO), Profile (http://www.reuters.com/stocks/companyProfile?symbol=ACa.TO), Research (http://www.reuters.com/stocks/researchReports?symbol=ACa.TO), Stock Buzz (http://reuters.socialpicks.com/stock/r/ACa)), Air Canada Jazz (JAZ_u.TO: Quote (http://www.reuters.com/stocks/quote?symbol=JAZ_u.TO), Profile (http://www.reuters.com/stocks/companyProfile?symbol=JAZ_u.TO), Research (http://www.reuters.com/stocks/researchReports?symbol=JAZ_u.TO), Stock Buzz (http://reuters.socialpicks.com/stock/r/JAZ_u)) and WestJet (WJA.TO: Quote (http://www.reuters.com/stocks/quote?symbol=WJA.TO), Profile (http://www.reuters.com/stocks/companyProfile?symbol=WJA.TO), Research (http://www.reuters.com/stocks/researchReports?symbol=WJA.TO), Stock Buzz (http://reuters.socialpicks.com/stock/r/WJA)). The obese have the right to force march to thier next destination and stop wasting the courts time while they wait in the drive through line. Why is it that all of these so called "diseases" find a way to get the sympathy of all of these political types and the real issues go undetected? STOP hiding behind the Burger King Bags and get off the couch and do something about that fat a$$. Carry on!

I agree, why take personal responsibility when there is always a way to get a handout.

My hope is that "poor bastard" doesn't give up any ground and makes the rotund one pay the price for super sizing it!

Yeah really - everyone else is trying to charge more for an extra suitcase than they would to someone who is smuggling an extra person around inside of them...
