Continuing a tradition

Marines from Ft. Lee at Petersburg completed the final leg of their 69-mile run on Friday to honor Lt. General Lewis “Chesty” Puller at his grave at Christ Episcopal Church in Middlesex County. For 15 years, the “Puller Run” has been held near the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps—November 10, 1775. Above, patriotic Middlesex County government workers and others cheer on the Marines as they pass through Saluda. Puller is the most decorated Marine in the 233-year history of the Corps and moved to Saluda after retirement. (Photo by Tom Chillemi)
