Dear God almighty!
Rank is JROTC, so why is he wearing National Defense ribbon?
Edit: Did some searching, and the explination on his Myspace is that he is Army Reserve and ROTC.
Just think one day he may be a 2nd Lt.!!

Really? My brother can get you into a EZ-Finance special program that can get you into a 2009 Ford Mustang AND we got some 460 acres just right outside of Florida Everglade National Park, where you can put your newly financed Time Shared trailer. Looking at that fat army boot reminds me of a Marine Capt. that I knew he looked just like that army boot. Don't be fooled by looks. This capt. was all Marine. You could put a fist into his stomach and draw back a hurting hand. He could out PT most Marines who were in really good shape.

I've seen one or two like that as well with high PFT's. It's a freak of nature thing really. I don't believe either one was as loose as the guy in the picture, but they both APPEARED to be really fat. One of them was a pitcher for Texas Christian University before joining after 9/11 and the other was some mormon farmboy who was built and looked like Shrek. The farmboy was brought in for weight control (appearance) even though he ran a 285 PFT that day. He went out and ran a 290 something at the end of the week and they just shrugged and let it go.:D

Don't come here in your blues...Sure you'll have women come up to you, but they only want to humiliate you or say you have no right to be there and just start stupid **** arguments.

:flag: Tell me if I'm correct or not in interpreting what you said. You don't want people to know you're a Marine ?
Depends where I go. At work, I don't care; there are lots of former Army, Navy, and LEOs. In fact having been in the Marines probably helped me land the job because of professional experience in my field and veteran's preference.
Places like my school...that's a completely different story. I got a ton of crap when I wore a t-shirt from a blood bank with a blood droplet in 782 gear that says "Blood makes the grass grow. Marines make the blood flow." Getting called baby killer or getting asked how I live with myself after killing children gets old quick. I once thanked her for tax contribution for the rifle rounds but suffice to say that didn't go over well. Around town is more or less the same story. Easier to avoid the conflict than to fight it I suppose.
About the only thing that I do that could be used to identify me as former military now is that I go to see the VA official on campus for GI Bill.
Put it this way, they had an anti-Marine Corps protest on campus back in September or October. I don't know what their beef was and I didn't stick around to find out. They have a right to do those things...
I'm pretty sure Marine Corps Reserve doesn't even do Toys for Tots here.
People even want to stop the Blue Angels from coming here every year because they are noisy obnoxious war machines. That crash in San Diego probably only goes to help their case too...

You know what I say when people try to start up anti-war conversations with me to try and belittle me and it usually is effective. One simple phrase I cut them off with
"I dont want to discuss politics with your or anyone else, you havent been there you dont understand...if thats all this conversation was to be about then its over. Leave me alone."
usually that catches them off guard and they leave or they sit down and have a real discussion and they learn something or two about who I am and what I have done, most of the time they listen too. Its pretty surprising.
I'll never forget this, one time when I was home on leave after my first deployment I was at a local theater that I used to act at and I was talking to a lady who was very against guns. This is basically how the conversation went down.
Lady: "I'm very against guns, I don't believe in them or the people that use them!"
Me: "Guns dont kill people, people kill people."
Lady: "That is so untrue! Its the gun that kills the person not the person itsself!"
Me: "A gun can only operate if someone pulls the trigger..."
Lady: " UNTRUE! GUNS ARE THE WORLDS PROBLEM!"
Me: "LADY! Look at me, I'm the same age as your son, I would not be standing here today if it werent for a gun. I am alive because I had to use a gun."
Lady: "Probably because of another gun!"
Me: "No it was actually a car loaded with explosives that tried to run our roadblock. Had I and another Marine not opened fire and killed the driver before the vehicle could get to us, I and about 10 other Marines would probably be dead right now!"
Lady: "Well I'm against bombs...."
Me: "Lady, I dont care....you can be against guns you can be against bombs you can be against me. But do you know who makes sure you have the right to be against those things. To have the right to publically speak like that....guys like me.....who carry the guns.....I'm done talking to you about this! You havent been there, you dont know what it's like. In those situations its either them or us. You just dont know..."
You could have heard a pin drop....it puts em in their place fast.

Do you go to UC Berkeley?
Yeah I don't advertise I was in the military either, neither do my friends. People around here just don't give a damn. I don't get the really screwed up comments directly, I hear some things said in lecture halls, but it's mostly loons.
It's really that there are so many Fed. Gov't types around here that being in the military, enlisted especially, is looked at as kind of unimpressive. Almost like people feel bad for you. I don't know how many times I've seen some First Sergeant giving a speech or making a point and folks are just falling asleep. It's a shame.:(
But at the same time, you don't want to be the guy where his achievements stop at a young age and that's all you fixate on. My uncle was in a ranger lrrp in viet nam (and some deeper stuff) and NEVER talked about it. His rationale was that it was in the past and he was more proud of what did AFTER all that. He gave me the same advice when I told him I was moving to D.C.

*"I wore a t-shirt from a blood bank with a blood droplet in 782 gear that says "Blood makes the grass grow. Marines make the blood flow." *
LOL! You know what the problem is, Marines like to really revel in the REALITY of things, and even make humor out of it. Most civilians live in a bubble, and can't take it when you remind them of what the world is really like outside of the developed world. You're a brute or a meathead for reminding them that people actually do get their brains blown out by well-placed rounds to the head, and they don't like that. They don't like to be reminded that Marines and soldiers are necessary.
Do you go to UC Berkeley?
I'm not UCB, but I'm near by. People have the same mentality though.
I got that t-shirt for donating blood on base and it's a hilarious pun. I donated over 10 times when I was in, which amounts to 1 gal. I'm pretty sure the blood bank made those because they were on base several times a month. Can't say that Marines don't do any good for the community; but trying to get people to admit that...well...good luck if they're hell bent on the Marine Corps is nothing but a war machine.
Call me what you will, but there's no point in arguing with the people here if they are only going to concentrate on a small aspect of the military. I'm surely not going to change their mind and the argument will probably just give them an overall negative impression of the Marines if I come off as some demented meat head. As far as getting called baby killer and what not...it's annoying and strange, but I'd rather keep my silence than sink to their level if that's all they have.
If it weren't for the Marines, I honestly don't know what I'd be doing now. I'm not going to say those years were all good times; it was a good experience but it's time to move on.
I'm not going out of my way to hide my military service; but I'm not flaunting it either. Do you seriously think I would go out of my way to get a Veterans plate for my car if I were trying to hide it?
