Wow I had an awesome day yesterday at my poolee function. We had all the local poolees and wannabees at this middle school football field and we ran the CFT. The thing that sucked was that it was so cold though but we ran 2 laps around the track [my time was 3:11 but woulda been better if it was warmer], we did the ammo can lift for 45 reps which was pretty easy, and then the obstacle course. The obstacle course was tough because I'm 230 pounds and the guy I dragged and carried on my shoulders was 270. But my time was 2:19.

After we got done with that we went to the local shooting range and shot an M16 and SAW. It was great.

Anyone else ever do this?

What did you all run in, boots or running shoes?

Damn dude, that sounds way better than my first poolee function. All we did was do PT and play football... not even tackle football either.

2:19? That seems a little fast to me. What did you guys do on the CFT course? With a 2:19 Im guessing it wasn't everything, but I could be wrong. Normally its not only 45 lifts. I think 41 is the min, and 99 is the max. Don't quote me on that one though.

At least there being active with you though. Showing you guys things you'll be doing in the future.

Mind i did a CFT at my poolee function and my Recruiters told me 90 is what you need to pass, i dont know for sure but just passing along the info I have been told.

45 ammo can minutes is the min. And 2:19 for the movement under fire is a normal time. Isn't too fast. It is fast, but doable. Last time I ran it, I did 2:11. And that was my 5th time running it that day. I ran the cft for my detachment.

I didn't know you could shoot as a poolee. Where did you shoot anyway? A range, out in the middle of nowhere, or what?

Last April, a bunch of RSS's here in North Carolina met up at Camp Geiger and all the poolees got to fire the simulated weapons. Granted, it wasn't real ammo, but it was the closest thing you can get to real. Great experience!

We didn't get to shoot them, but Saturday our recruiters took us to the National Guard base near our recruiting station and we got to field strip the M-16, and they showed us how to field strip the M249 SAW and we got to check out the Humvee. One of the better Pool Functions we've had.

Yea the M-16's where pretty badass. We had some mini-competetions to see who could dissemble/assemble them the fastest. Then it was funny to watch the national guard try to get into formation, dress right etc. etc. But they definatly need to learn on how to clean their rifles because they were nasty

No sh*t they were nasty. I took the bolt out and my hands got covered in carbon or whatever it is. Also when LCpl. Webber tried to strip the SAW, he had trouble because it was so nasty. Other than that it was awesome.

Funny about the nastiness. Here's a true story.

I'm in Iraq right now, and sitting to my left is a Navy 2nd class Petty Officer and on my right is a US Army Specialist.

I don't see any poolees.

Until I do, I don't want to hear anymore "The Army is nasty" talk out of any of your mouths, check?

Don't worry, I used to bash the Army too, I would be a liar to tell you as a poolee I didn't. But they're fighting right next to us, we help them out, they help us out. Some civilian sitting at home has no right to call anyone wearing a uniform nasty.

That's not what I meant, not in the least. I was just saying the weapons we were using were dirty, not the Army its self. And not all the weapons were dirty, just the one I happened to be using. I definitely worded that wrong.

Sorry I'll clarify a bit. All we were in was shorts, t-shirts, and running shoes. The obstacle course consisted of 10 yd sprint then dropping to a stomach crawl, then a regular crawl [the Marine called it a baby crawl or something], then ran around a few cones, dragged my partner around a couple cones, fireman's carry him about 40-50 yards. Then sprint around cones with 2 ammo cans, throwing a grenade [baseball] into a coned off zone, then dropping for 10 pushups. Finally, sprinting back 50 yds with 2 ammo cans.

It was definently a challenge and I was so exhausted afterwards. Also, with the ammo can lift, the Marine said we were supposed to do 45 in 2 minutes, and 90 was a perfect score. But I guess we were supposed to stop at 45.

You're also supposed to do 3 pullups then drop off the bar, then do 45 crunches in 2 minutes, then power walk 3 miles in 27 min. 59 sec...

Ha, well I would have kept going, but he just said when we get to 45 to stop. I don't know why that is.

Oh man, I did a CFT a few weeks back before I got used to this desolate desert and by the end of it I was about ready to cough my lungs up. In my opinion the CFT is harder than the PFT.

They tell you to stop at 45 so you won't have arms wiggling around like jelly when you're doing the buddy drag and fireman's carry (my buddy almost dropped me on my face!) along with the rest of the fire and movement phase.

To the other Marines who are familiar with this, is there even a maximum score for the CFT yet? They just told us the minimum times and let us loose to do it, so no one even bothered to completely destroy themselves on the half mile "sprint" and the ammo can lift because they knew the fire and movement would kick their a$$.

No, to my knowledge right now it's just pass or fail.

I figured. The reason I ask is because shooting a gun isn't really that big of a deal, poolee or not, unless you're from a big metro area.

Just keep your weapon clean, I myself don't care for the army, Marines have been fixing their mistakes since 1775 as of now keep it to yourself and when you earn our title you will find out our beloved Corps is second to none.
