Marines focusing on mission right at home

JOLIET - The Marines of Company E, 4th Reconnaissance Battalion in Joliet, have a mission, however it will not take them to Iraq, Afghanistan, or any other distant land. Their mission is right here at home.

Their mission is to deliver a glimmer of hope to the less fortunate children of all of Will and Grundy counties, as well as portions of Cook, Kendall and DuPage counties. This year's mission is to collect 100,000 toys to distribute to 20,000 needy children.

Each year, the Marines in Joliet collect toys for children in these areas that, without this program, would have nothing for Christmas. The success of the Toys for Tots program, and the mission of the Marines, is dependent upon donations from the communities they serve.

The Marines have placed donation boxes at many community businesses throughout Will, Grundy, Kendall, Cook, and DuPage counties.

The Marines are also holding two toy drives to support their goal, the first of which is on Nov. 22 at the Promenade of Bolingbrook. The Marines will be at the Promenade from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The second event will be held at Westfield Louis-Joliet Mall on Nov. 29 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Marines will be collecting new, unopened, and unwrapped toys for ages infant to 17 at both events.

For more information on the Toys for Tots program or to find a donation site near you, please visit the Toys for Tots website at www.toysfortots.org or call Gunnery Sergeant Stucker or Corporal Smith at 815-725-7828 ext. 9.
