Marine Memorial Painting Display Coming To Cincinnati

POSTED: 8:51 am EST November 10, 2008

CINCINNATI -- Life-size paintings of 23 Marines and service members killed in Iraq are about to be taken down from display at the Statehouse after a five-month run to begin a new run in Cincinnati.

The paintings honor members of the Columbus-based Lima Company, which was devastated by attacks in Iraq in 2005, including one roadside bomb that killed nine Marines.

The paintings, on display since Memorial Day, will come down Tuesday, which is Veterans Day. They're headed to the Cincinnati Museum Center, where they'll be shown through Jan. 4.

The memorial includes information on those killed and space for others to leave messages and mementos.

Anita Miller, the Westerville artist who created the paintings, said some visitors have left behind medals, ribbons and other military objects.
