Marines,

I come to you with a few questions. I am wondering what being a Supply Marine (3043) is like. If deployed, what are the main tasks of a 3043? I am strongly considering contracting in the Supply field, an other information would be appreciated.

Best Regards,

Abyss

There are two supply MOS's 3043 is Supply Administration, 3051 is Warehouse worker....When you are deployed as a Marine, you are constantly building your supply block to issue from, As the Marines are a "Force in Readiness"....When a unit needs it you better have it. So as you issue from the supply block, it automatically gets re-ordered to replenish it....From either Lejeune or Pendleton. By the way, when I say supply block I don't mean Cheetos or Laundry detergent....We're talking Parts for weapons, vehicles, 782 field gear, tools for engineers, MRE's, Tires for Heavy equipment etc...PLUS if you do go supply, 3043's always got promoted quicker than 3051's!! I should know I was a 3051 for 4 years. Good Luck feel free to PM me with any more in depth questions.

I agree with the promotion rate, that's def. a plus when going supply. I thought about going supply so I could see if I could pick up Staff in less than 6, but I guess the Marine Corps had other plans for me.

Cpl,

I appreciate the quick reply. What is the main difference between 3042 and 3051, besides promotion rate? Also, if deployed what is the job of a Supply Marine?

Us 3051's used to operate the Yellow Industrial Forklifts back on the base, But When Deployed we drove tactical green forklift's with .50 cal's mounted up top.......It was awesome!

Pretty much dead on. Only thing is that 782 gear is all issued and maintained by a civilian contractor now.

I agree, as 3051 myself I found our cutting scores to be far higher than the 3043's. I spent 3 1/2 years with HQSVC BN, 2ND FSSG, 1998-2001. We had 3 four year Lance Corporals, mostly because of cutting scores.

Well, When I picked up Cpl. I know my score was over 1700 and I was a Lcpl. for 3 years.....I met a 3043 at the birthday celebration (Cookies Tavern, South Philly) yesterday and he told me his score he needed for Cpl. was 1300's.....and he already was about to pick it up with 1 1/2 year in Service.
I was with 2nd Supply Co. 2nd Supply Bn. (Deployment Support Unit) But I got the hell outta there and went TAD to MSSG-26 for 3 years...(A Good Move indeed). Supply on a ship is ALOT of work!

Everything, has to be secured for heavy seas at all times, Those Fvcking gripe nets holding everything down....It takes alot of teamwork, which I found there was never any shortage of in the Marine Corps,(Oohrah, thank you brothers!) Being the Embarkation NCO of the Supply section for a MEU, was pretty friggin stressful but we pulled it off. And they even gave me a NAM (before they changed the name)

What are you talking about? Do you mean the award? How has it changed?

CplKJSpevak
11-12-08, 02:50 AM
Well, Didn't they change the Name of the Navy Achievment Medal, to the Navy/Marine Corps Achievment Medal? That's all I meant...........So when it was called the Navy Achievment Medal it was called a NAM. I don't know what the Acro. would be for it now..

Marines still use the acronym NAM even when they're awarded now.

What he said! It's still refered to as a NAM same as the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation - NavCom.

Wow I'm surprised to hear that the score for 3043 is still low. When I was in Oki in '04-'06 all the 3043 Marines I had checked in as Pvts and PFCs were leaving the island as Cpls and most ended up getting out as Sgts, I'm guessing that's still the case. Well, these Marines should consider themselves lucky because when I first came in 3043 closed for promotion for like FOREVER and a few outstanding LCpls I knew never got to earn their blood stripes.

Served as a 3051 from 1981-1987... 1st FSSG, 3rd FSSG, 2nd Mar Div. Maintenance Float Activity Group 4 and 8, then off to H&S in 2/2 in Lejeune.

When I joined in 81, if you could breathe you made NCO. by the time it was my turn, if you could walk on water you could get NCO, and only if you could chug a "Bud" while singing the Marine Corps Hymn in the key of B, while doing push-ups on one hand.

Even in those days, if you were a 3043, you got promoted faster... Forgot about the gripe nets, and the fact you couldn't see **** when you stacked the 50 cubes 2 high in the cargo hold, and the lights were all burnt out.

Then a boot LT. comes down and wants an inventory because the idiot that loaded the ship lost the locator deck. Ah, what memories... Corporal "poopy" Love... what a dip****. Source of a lot of angst...

However, had a great time in the Med, and we were "invisible" on the ship, as our LT decided to load up the office on a different ship where all the brass was at. We only saw them once during the whole tour... and no one on board the Charleston knew who we were, so we didn't pull duty, and had liberty everytime we pulled into port... Now THAT was worth it.

You're an old fart?

I was a 3051 from 1976-1980. 1st FSSG; 3/9 Bn Sup @Camp Schwab, & TAD @ MCMWTC. Float to Fuji and then Subic to support Operation Fortress Lightning.

I went in as PFC, so I made CPL within 18 mos, but didnt get Sgt until 1980.
