This article, which was printed in the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, dated 5/29/03 can also be viewed on his website Http://www.hackworth.com. The title of the column is titled: Rangers caught in PC Crossfire.
Here is a sampling.
That is until Maj.Gen.**** *****, the guy who runs Ft. Bennining today, was told by a few recent Ranger graduates that they were turned off by RangerSchoolbecause some of their instructors were meanies and actuallycursed at them and made them do push ups when they goofed up. Others complained in writing that they'd been sleep-deprived and that the training was too difficult.
The Ranger instructors were merelyfollowing the battle-tested Darby practices of creating maximum stress, teaching attention to detail and passing on proven tactics and techniques that have worked so splendidly for our Rangers in a bunch of bad scraps.
But serving Rangers say ***** went ballistic. He assembled the RIs (Ranger Instructors) and gave these tough, dedicated warriors-most with 12 to 15 years of service- a tongue-lashing they'll never forget. About this time, an investigation was launched. Magnificent soldiers such as Command Sgt. Maj. ***** ****, a combat Ranger with 23 years of superior service, were relieved, and other equallyfine soldiers' careers went down the toilet.
Why? Because clueless Generation Xers with a few months in the Army ratted out these heroes to a general who then overreacted.
The effect?
RIs are no longer allowed to swear in the presence of a student. Nor can they raise their voices or use push-ups as punishment. Sttudents wear sneakers instead of bootsand are coddled as if they were at a Boy Scout Jamboree instead of preparing for a kill-or-be-killed rendezvous.

Of course there is more to this column but I believe I submitted a very good sampling of what this article is about.

Happy but rather sad reading.

Let us hope and pray that America doesn't go up against an enemy "we" were trained to take care of! Then will be too late!! The more you sweat in peacetime the less you bleed in war! (or, has everyone forgot?)
