Col. Burdine to Speak at ETMAC Luncheon

East Tennessee Military Affairs Council Veterans Awards and Recognition Luncheon, an annual event on Veterans Day, is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 12:30 p.m. at The Foundry on the World's Fair Site in Downtown Knoxville.

This year's guest speaker is United States Marine Col. Miles Burdine. Burdine, a veteran of three combat environments, is a reservist who's civilian job is the President/CEO of the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce.

Burdine served in Beirut, Lebanon in 1983, in Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and in Ramadi, of the Anbar province, in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005 and 2006.

Based on his extensive training and experience, Colonel Burdine's remarks will include his thoughts on terrorism, his thoughts on the Middle East and his thoughts on the amazing courage of America's military.

He was in Beirut on Oct. 23, 1983, when a terrorist detonated a massive truck bomb inside the headquarters of 1st Battalion 8th Marines, causing the deaths of 240 Marines, soldiers and sailors.

He will also include remarks about his 2005/2006 experience working with the Governor of Al Anbar to build a democracy and the significant progress being made there recently.
