Marines to demonstrate combat fitness test

Associated Press - October 31, 2008 4:15 AM ET

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. (AP) - The new Marine Corps combat fitness test is being demonstrated at a second North Carolina base this week as part of a national rollout of the exercises.

Marine trainers are demonstrating the test Friday at Air Station Cherry Point in Havelock.

The test was demonstrated earlier this week at Camp Lejeune. It features a timed 800-yard run, lifting a 30-pound ammunition can for two minutes and a 300-yard course that requires Marines to combat crawl, drag and carry a casualty and throw a grenade. The entire test is completed in combat boots and utility uniforms.

Officials said the test will be a semiannual requirement for active-duty Marines starting in October 2009.
