CHERRY POINT - About 800 Cherry Point Marines will be reunited with their families today though Sunday night after spending seven months mostly in Afghanistan.

The Marines are part of various 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing detachments of the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 365.

About 101 Marines are expected around 5:30 p.m. today and another 199 about 11:45 p.m. On Thursday, 288 are scheduled to arrive at 4:30 p.m., and the final group is expected at 7:10 p.m. Sunday.

Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 365 is a CH-46E squadron that serves as the air combat element for the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit from Camp Lejeune.

The air combat element is a Marine medium helicopter squadron with equipment and personnel for CH-53E Super Stallions, UH-1N Hueys, and AH-1W Super Cobras. It includes fixed-wing aircraft such as the AV-8B Harrier, and has support from U.S.-based KC-130 Hercules squadrons.

The combat group is capable of conducting a full range of Marine air operations and it can be tailored to better support specific missions.

More information on the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit is available at http://www.iimefpublic.usmc.mil/24meu.
